Tweak festival, taking place this September 13th to 24th all around Limerick City, Ireland. Tweak is a festival that operates under a multi-faceted, multi-dimensional design that aims to inspire, educate, inquire and celebrate contemporary art mediums such computer coding, creative recycling, rewired sound sculptures and electronic art installations.
* REGISTRATION NOW OPEN: http://www.tweak.ie/workshop.html
Two workshops will take place as part of Tweak on September 14th - 16th.
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
E-WASTE WORKSHOP
Worskhop tutors: Benjamin Gaulon and Lawrence Rozema
All Out Design 5 Sarsfield Street
10 am Wednesday 15th - 5pm Thursday 16th September
Fee €80
Limited to 10 participants
Skill level: Beginners
Using e-waste as raw material, this workshop offer participants to become familiar with basic hardware and software hacking / recycling while at the same time gaining hands-on experience making an interactive art project.
This workshop is open to participants of different backgrounds and no programming or electronic skills are required. The idea is to start from scratch and create a complete project over a short time, including concept, design, electronics / interfacing, and functional programming with Arduino, Max/Msp, Pure Data or Processing.
In this workshop participants will deconstruct readily-available, cheap electronic devices into interactive tools is more than a lot of fun; the process offers the same visible, hands-on learning and understanding acquired through dissection. By re-purposing second-hand hardware or cheap toys, a commercial, mass-produced product is transformed into a unique device, with potential for new and original means of expression or communication. The objects produced in this workshop will be exhibited as part of the Tweak exhibition in the Church Gallery Space in LSAD
OBJECT ORIENTED FRANKENSTEIN
Worskhop tutors:Antonin Fourneau and Julien Gachadoat
All Out Design 5 Sarsfield Street
10 am Tuesday 14th - 5pm Thursday 16th September
Fee €110
Limited to 12 participants
Skill level: Intermediate to Advanced
Transform a common object in something of magic. In this workshop participants will use everyday items to giving them new functions by the help of technologies like Arduino and Processing. Participants will create new kinds of readymade objects but ones that interact with human. Sort of clever, social or antisocial, critical... The participants will work on to interconnect this objects and once connected they will produce an amazing collaborative program and show.
1 sensor + 1 item produces 1 effect (sound or visual)
You bring electronic equipment (ready to be sacrificed)
The workshop will be conducted over three days where participants will brainstorm and develop 5 project prototypes, which together will produce a collaborative visual and sound show. Participants will work with processing, Arduino and openFrameworks to develop and make these objects. The outcomes of this workshop will be then displayed in the Tweak exhibition

* [gridflow]: added 'os' to allow patches to detect operating system
* [#rotatificator]: added attr 'cast'
* support default bang/float/symbol/pointer/list methods wherever
applicable (just like pd does in first inlet; but GF also does it in
non-first inlets)
* [print]/[display]: fixed stupid bug in printing nested lists (A_LIST)
* ./configure: no Pd detection anymore; now comes with m_pd.h of
0.42-extended.
* 64-bit fixes in [display] and [#see] and some more
* [hpgl_font_render] [for] [#slice] [#scale_to]: made args optional
* [#line_to_polygon] [#fastblur]: made args optional
* [#pack]: add method 'cast' and allow dimension-list like [#redim]'s
* [#in grid] [#out grid]: fix problem with incorrect 'headerless' flag
* [#import] without arguments now does the same as a plain grid-inlet
does.
* major improvements to the internal API of GridFlow (shortcuts, etc)
* qbert.pd: now in 2-D, and added a title screen
* [#border]: allow 2-dimensional input, and border sizes of 2 elements
each.
* [#text_to_image]: add 2-dimensional input on the left
* [gf/object_bbox]: add method 'float' to look up by index in canvas
* removed soft dependencies on zexy, ggee
* rewrote [#convolve]'s help, now including a tutorial of convolution
theory
* split away the UTF-8 hack as "gridflow_unicorn.pd_*"

We have just released the first complete version of the SoundHack externals for PD & Max. These externals replicate most of the SoundHack plugins and are offered free of charge. Included in this collection are externals for amplitude shaping and distortion (+compand~, +chebyshev~ & +decimate~); single-head, multi-head, pitchshifting and granular delays (+delay~, +pitchdelay~, +bubbler~); and the spectral shapers, a set of spectral filters and dynamics processors (+binaural~, +morphfilter~, +spectralcompand~ & +spectralgate~).
This package is available (free) at http://www.soundhack.com/externs.php
As this is the first release, we expect bugs - don't hesitate to write us at support at soundhack.com.
These externals were programmed by William Brent, Tom Erbe, Daniel Arias, Bryan Oczkowski and Trevor LeVieux. Big thanks to the UC San Diego Department of Music and the Center for Research in Computing and the Arts for their support.
PS - Don't despair - Windows versions are coming...

Crazy A/V Machines: a puredata workshop
When:
Monday to Saturday September 27th-October 2nd 12:00-16:00
Where:
NK Elsenstr. 52 2HH 2Etage 12059 Berlin
Who:
Oscar Martin and Luca Carrubba
The aim of this workshop is to learn simple programming strategies for the
creation of audio/video software tools for live performances. Generative or
interactive piece of software that let artist creates and controls a video
stream or an audio processing in real time.
During the workshop we will use Pure Data, a free (as a bird and as a beer)
graphical programming language particularly focused on the processing of
audio and video data in real time. Pure data is a tool for artists whom
wants experiment with a
different creation pattern, with a freedom to build from the scratch they
own instruments or interactive installation. You dont need to be a
programmer to begin to build your tool. In 5-6 days long workshop you will
learn the basis of language, how to manipulate or create a video and how to
play with audio. At the end of the workshop all participants will play in a
jam session together in the Lab space or exhibit their prototypes.
Participation is limited to 12.

August at Flussi Festival for New Media Arts, Avellino, Italy.
I’ll share the stage with Menion (La Bèl Netlabel), Mokira (Raster-Noton /
Milleplateaux / Type Records) and Thomas Fehlmann (Kompakt / Plug Research).
I suggest to check the complete program
<http://www.flussi.eu/programma-2/>on the festival website as it
includes many other interesting artists such
as Domenico Sciajno, Murcof, Asferico, Lukid and Mount Kimbie.
Drop me a line if you happened to be around, I'd be delighted to meet up for

Hi all,
Pd version 0.43-0 test 2 is available on:
http://crca.ucsd.edu/~msp/software.htm
This version features a comprehensive re-write of the GUI (almost entirely
contributed by others!)
I'm aiming to get the final 0.43-0 out by Aug. 31.
