pd 0.37-1 test 1 released (source only)

Hi all, I've released sources for version 0.37-1 test 1. I've still got some testing to do before declaring it "stable", but it almost certainly fixes many more bugs than it will introduce - including the "punning" warnings in GCC 3.3, MIDI sysex support, fixes to "$" variables in the IEM GUIs, "-inchannels" flag, "apple" key fix for MacOS, and several other smaller improvements. http://www.crca.ucsd.edu/~msp/software.html cheers Miller

hi, this release is just intended to improve performances, because i'm always looking for a configuration that would be able to play back 7 320x240 movies with an acceptable framerate ( mm, 20 frames/sec ?? ). although it has been optimized, this is still not the case with PDP/PiDiP, well, on my machine. if you know of a tool (linux ) that can do that, please let me know. well, for now, here are the updates : 0.12.10 added pdp_xcanvas : pdp_canvas + pdp_xv in one ( for performances reasons ) optimized pdp_canvas ( but overlapping has disappeared ) added pdp_fqt : fast quicktime reader ( frames are cached in memory and no audio decoding ) added pdp_fcqt : fast quicktime reader ( same as pdp_fqt but frames are compressed ) added help patches for pdp_yqt, pdp_fqt and pdp_fcqt adaptations for newer autoconfs cheers, sevy

This makes heavy use of Pure Data and Max/MSP so I thought I'd post it here. English version below. --------------------------- PPPS: Sucht Brunke Online Projekt: Webmixer, 6 Livestreams von Anja KeyÃelt und Die abwesende Person Klanginstallation: Computer, 12 Telefonhoerer, 6 Livestreams von Olaf Matthes Montag, 3. November 2003, 20:30 Uhr Laden V-17, Veteranenstrasse 17, Berlin-Mitte Der Schriftsteller und Filmautor Thomas Brasch (1945-2001) veroeffentlichte 1999 den Roman Maedchenmoerder Brunke nach einem historischen Gerichtsfall: ein junger Mann, der "nach irrlichternden Homunkulus-Existenz-Versuchen als unterschlagender Bankangestellter oder Bordellvoyeur seine zwei Klavierschuelerinnen erschiesst" (F.J. Raddatz). Hinter dem schmalen Band steht ein 13 000 Seiten umfassender Torso, an dem der Autor ueber zehn Jahre bis zu seinem Tod gearbeitet hat. Am 3. November finden anlaesslich des zweiten Todestages des Autors an Theatern in Dresden, Leipzig, Bremen, Muenchen und Berlin Lesungen aus Fragmenten zum Roman statt. Die Klanginstallation von Olaf Matthes im Laden V-17 greift Prinzipien von Braschs Schreibprozess, das Wechselspiel von Konstruktion und Dekonstruktion, sowie seinen Umgang mit dem "Werk" wieder auf: Brasch hat seinen Freunden am Telefon nach Zufall aus dem Skript vorgelesen. Als Material der Installation dienen die Tonsignale der an verschiedenen Orten stattfindenden Lesungen. Die Besucher stimulieren allein durch ihre koerperliche Anwesenheit die computergenerierte Synthese der Signale zu immer neuen Texten. Raddatz). The small paperback book is just a small excerpt from the 13.000 pages the author was working on in the last ten years of his life. On November the 3rd, celebrating the second anniversary of the day of his death, lectures from this material will be held in Dresden, Leipzig, Bremen, Munich, Vienna and Berlin. The sound installation by Olaf Matthes at Laden V-17 takes up methods of Brasch's process of writing, the alternation of construction and deconstruction and, finally, his dealing with his own work: Brasch used to read randomly selected pages to his friends on the telephone. The livestreams of the lectures serve as sound material for the installation. The visitors' bodily presence stimulates the computer-generated synthesis of the sound material, thus creating ever new texts. "One is revolving around something, going towards it and because of that it changes." (Thomas Brasch) PPPS: Search for Brunke Simultaneously to the lectures and sound installation the audio streams will be broadcast via the internet. Through a web interface the user can interactively confront the work's fragments with each other. partconv~ efficiently applies FIR filters with arbitrary impulse responses. Now you can virtually place sound inside a concert hall or even your bathtub in real time, completely within Pd! :) It requires the FFTW3 library (http://www.fftw.org), includes the source, an x86 Linux binary, and a sample impulse response, and is located here: http://home.gci.net/~pamsaylor/ben/partconv~-0.1.tar.gz There is room for improvement, and suggestions are welcome. I put up a new external on my homepage: http://www.xs4all.nl/~gml It is called beatpipe. Itis an event scheduler/quantizer Any list starting with a number T sent to the left inlet , will be sent to the output after T beats , quantized with tpq (tick per quarter) and stripped of the leading beat number. The tempo can be changed dynamically on the right inlet The quantification can be set at any time with a set-tpq message. You can sync the ticks or the beats with messages. So it is a kind of realtime beat-oriented qlist. I also put in in the pure-data CVS at sourceforge as well as my other externals. Gerard

New Windows Installer Beta

I have just put together a reasonably complete Windows installer for Pd. It includes a lot of stuff from CVS, including most externals, Gem, PDDP, abstractions and tutorials. Give it a whirl and let me know how it goes. (It has an old build of the externals collection from CVS, so a lot of help files don't work when right-clicking.) http://www.pure-data.org/Members/hans Also, I made some attempts to make .pd files double-clickable. Pd 0.36 on IRIX

Hi list, I just wanted to announce something new for old machines: I've compiled Pd for IRIX 6.5 (based on the distribution from SÃ¸ren Bovbjerg) and added / changed some things: - Pd now supports the -realtime flag to run at higher priority. The priority is set to 192 (255 would be the maximum) because I didn't want to block the system too much. But that's still much better than a priority setting of 20. The same pd-watchdog technique is used as on Linux. - used GCC 3.3 to compile: Pd and all externals are compiled with GCC, so it's now possible to compile externals without having to purchase the MIPSpro compiler from SGI. CPU usage seems to be 2 or 3% higher compared to SÃ¸rens version (which was made using the MIPSpro compiler, I guess). Note: gcc compiled externals don't work with the MIPSpro version of Pd and the other way round... Requirements: SGI Workstation (I tested it on a single-CPU R12k Octane), IRIX 6.5 (might work with 6.4 but not earlier because thread scheduling was introduced in IRIX 6.4) Download: http://www.nullmedium.de/dev/irix/pd-0.36-irix6.5-gcc3.3.tar.gz (n32 binary, mips4) Olaf

Following up the essence and perspective of previous editions, this year the specific scope of the Olhares de Outono will specifically focus the topic of an instrument, so that conferences, workshops and events will converge in to the discussion of a musical or visual instrument. The notion of an instrument, apparently leading to a perfectly integrated model with a clear role in the mediation different human activities, reveals it self in a perspective of decomposition of its complexity unveiling its unstable nature. The idea of an instrument becomes a synthesized concept based on subtracts of different origins, in the sense that an instrument is also an interface which articulates and correlates perception, representation, cognition, physiology, bionic, etc. In this context, by trying to profound, the conception, implementation and usage of instruments which synthesize different areas of knowledge, we will have the opportunity of getting in touch with perspectives which are the basis for cutting-edge research in the Digital Arts Domain. Besides the workshops, for which we rely on the presence of Professor Antonio Camurri and Ramon Gonzalez-Arroyo, we will also present several conferences from which we stress the presence of two young Portuguese researchers from one of the most prestigious research groups in the field of representation - CICM/ Paris 8 University. A new format of presentation will also be introduced this year, with the Study-Journey, where we will present the work developed over the last two years in the Atelier de Artes Digitais context, which will be introduced this year as a research group on the Citar_Lab. In an attempt to keep revealing to the general public the new tendencies in Digital Arts, we will two major events closing the Olhares de Outono, from which we highlight the event Utupias in collaboration with Orquestra Utópica.
