*Crouching Table, Hidden Pointer--Pure Data for soundfiles and live
sampling with Derek Holzer*
The Shaolin Temple secret for manipulating recorded sound in Pure Data
lies in the arcane arts of the Table. Seekers of enlightenment will be
shown how to load soundfiles from the harddrive into tables, or capture
live audio from the microphone, so that these sounds can be looped,
stretched, pitchshifted, granulated and mangled. The Way is a long and
dangerous one, and some basic understanding of PD is recommended, but
some of you will triumph!
Time will also be set aside for responding to participants' questions
about their own PD audio projects.
---What to bring:
Essential:
1) Laptop running Linux, OS X or Windows
2) Pure Data Extended installed from:
http://at.or.at/hans/pd/installers.html
3) Soundcard (internal or external, quality a non-issue)
4) Headphones
5) EUR 10 participation fee
Recommended/Suggested:
1) MIDI controller/keyboard
2) Microphone
3) USB Joystick
4) Your own soundfiles (WAV, AIFF format)
5) Your own PD audio projects for feedback
---About the Teacher
Derek Holzer [USA 1972] began working with Pure Data in 2001. Since
then, he has taught and performed with the program across Europe, North
America, Brazil and New Zealand. His work focuses on field recording,
networked collaboration strategies, experiments in improvisational sound
and the use of free software such as Pure-Data. Holzer has released
tracks under the Nexsound, Sirr, and/OAR, Frozen Elephants Music and
Gruenrekorder labels, and has co-initiated several internet projects for
field recording and collaborative soundscapes including Soundtransit.nl.
He is currently writing a Pure Data beginner's manual for the FLOSS
Manuals project.

PACKET FORTH Workshop
with Aymeric Mansoux, Tom Schouten and Marloes de Valk
This 3 day workshop is an introduction to generative visuals using the
open source programming language Packet Forth. The workshop is aimed at
artists and programmers interested in generative art, animation,
audiovisual performances, and installations. No previous knowledge of
programming is required, but a good general knowledge of computers is
necessary. The entire workshop will be taught using the pure:dyne
GNU/Linux distribution. If you're not familiar with GNU/Linux, this is a
great opportunity to get started!
During the workshop we'll take you through some of the main features of
Packet Forth. It's impossible to learn how to program in 3 days, so this
workshop is just to get you started and get you through the first steps.
We'll show you what is possible, and how to go about creating your own
applications, starting at the very basis. We'll cover both drawing and
animating, 2D and 3D, and how to link PF to other applications such as
Pure Data using Open Sound Control.
It's a hands-on workshop which provides each participant with a
workstation and 3 days packed with food for thought.
You'll go home with a pure:dyne livecd, containing all the software
used in the workshop (and much much more). Go Forth! is based on 100%
FLOSS (Free/Libre Open Source Software).

Ok, finally another release for Pd-0.39.2-extended. After a long
pause, it's time for a code freeze and debugging. That means Release
Candidate 1. Yes, there are known bugs, and most definitely unknown
bugs. Let's find them and make a final release!
There are two important changes in this release:
* DejaVu Sans Mono is now default font
* same sizes and layout on all platforms
That means you need to install the font "DejaVu Sans Mono" if you
don't already have it installed:
http://dejavu.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
The use of this font is not set in stone, we can use another, but it
needs to be free. Here are some screenshots of the fonts that I tried:

Celebrate tax day with a patch-o-rama!
http://idmi.poly.edu/node/122
This week we are fortunate enough to have Wesley Smith from Cycling
74 to join us in patching patchers and, well, lets be honest, helping
us a bit with our Max/Jitter/OpenGL/Shader issues *cough*
Right Wes?.
Come join the fun and dont bother the poor guy too much.
This is an informal gathering of patching and patchers (Max/MSP/
Jitter, Pure Data, and even jMax, EyesWeb, vvvv, etc.). Beginners
and Experienced welcome. Open to everyone, students, the public,
etc. Work on school projects, personal projects, ask for help, help
others, or just patch quietly to yourself, in a room full of other
people patching patches and helping other people patch.
This Monday, April 16th 6-9pm.
RSVP and I'll put you on the guest list at the door. Otherwise call
718 260 3693 when you get there.

hello everyone
the netpd-server is currently down due to a hd-crash. while i am
repairing it, you can connect to 195.176.254.167:3025 instead as an
alternative. change the field 'IP/domain' in netpd-settings of _chat.pd
from 'netpd.org' to '195.176.254.167'.
other netpd-services like the netpd-wiki, the netpd-radio and others
won't be available until i fixed the problem.
-we apologize in advance for all incommodities, which follow from it-
