Details in german: Pure Data – visuelles Programmieren für Künstler Dozenten Frank Barknecht (Medienkünstler, Musiker und Autor, Köln) Derek Holzer (Medienkünstler, Berlin) Inhalt Ursprünglich für die Komposition elektronischer Musik gedacht, ist Pure Data zu einem Werkzeug geworden, mit dem sich unterschiedlichste mediale Projekte verwirklichen lassen - von interaktiven Installationen bis zu audiovisuellen Performances. Pure Data folgt der Logik des Verkabelns und ist eine gerade bei KünstlerInnen beliebte Programmierumgebung. Die visuelle, datenstromorientierte Struktur erlaubt es, auch ohne Informatik-Kenntnisse komplexe Programme zu entwickeln. Pure Data ist das quelloffene und freie Pendant zur kommerziell vertriebenen Software MAX/MSP. Der Workshop findet in Kooperation mit dem Fachgebiet Medienkunst der Burg Giebichenstein Hochschule für Kunst und Design im sogenannten Gärtnerhaus, Seebener Str. 2 statt. Max: 12 participants Level: Beginner Chaos theory, finite state machines, randomness, entropy, non linear systems and non deterministic automata, l-systems, self-similar series, recursions and iterations. WTF? LOLZ During this 3 day workshop, the participants will be introduced to dataflow programming, simple Digital Signal Processing, generative and algorithmic techniques that they will be able to apply in any other field once the course is completed. The goal of the workshop is not to learn a new software, but to get acquainted with certain techniques and strategies for the creation of a media art work or design. The software Pure Data will be used to illustrate most of the different techniques, but the emphasis will be put on introducing and explaining the generative processes so the participant can understand them and will be able to implement these techniques in his/her work. The participants who are interested in learning more about the software used in the workshop, can come to the Openlab sessions following the workshop. The workshop is based on 100% Free/Libre/Open Source Software. All the material used during the workshop will be available on-line under an open content license. LAC2008 -- The final countdown The Linux Audio Conference 2008 is prepared. The organisation team of LAC2008 is looking forward to welcoming the international Linux audio community in Cologne. The conference is taking place at the Academy of Media Arts (KHM) from February 28 to March 2, 2008. For detailed information visit the LAC2008 website at http://lac.linuxaudio.org The Conference Participants of LAC2008 will experience four days crammed full with presentations of new developments in Linux audio software. 20 talks by international experts are planned. The Soundlab of the Academy is delighted to have Miller S. Puckette from San Diego as a keynote speaker on Saturday. Admission to all presentations is free. Remote visitors can follow the entire paper session plus selected extras by means of our audio and video streams and can participate via IRC channels. The Concerts There will be three concerts at the "Stadtgarten" in Cologne. Two of these are "classical" concerts with a mixture of experimental, improvised or taped music all made using Linux as main platform. A third one, the "Club Night" will be an allnighter focusing on electronic music with a club background. Artists from the USA and Canada, Austria, UK, Poland and many other countries will play at these events. The Exhibition The exhibition at LAC2008 will present sound art by students of the Academy of Media Arts plus site-specific works by invited artists. The Workshops Learning is fun: the LAC2008 will host several exciting workshops for your Linux audio brain training pleasure held by experts in the respective fields. Topics include hardware hacking with a custom Arduino board and software soldering using Pure Data and SuperCollider. Additionally, space is available for adhoc workshops and self organised meetings. Hi all, three more bug fixes, including one I forgot to throw in the release notes: I figured out why cutting/pasting text into boxes didn't work on MACOS or Windows. The others: a crash bug on windows when restarting DSP repeatedly, and netsend/netreceive sometimes dropping data. cheers Miller
