[1] http://www.ling.uni-potsdam.de/~moocow/projects/pd/
PD lends itself perfectly for an scenario involving capturing
different types of sensory information, doing interesting processing
through complex patches and producing a spoken feedback. However,
while there are PD externals to access speech synthesis [1], there are
no satisfying language generation functionality for PD. In this
meeting, I would like to present some work on that direction and
gather feedback from the seasoned members of PDMTL. My expertise lies
in computational linguistics and language generation.

N.K.: WORKSHOP | Every Tuesday in Oct (4, 11, 18, 25) 2011
Beginning iPhone development
Since the introduction of the iPhone in 2007, Apple's iOS has come to
have a dominating presence in the smartphone market. Between them, the
iPhone and iPad look set to sell 120 million units this year, and half
a million apps are already on the iPhone App Store. But impressive as
these statistics might be, they don't provide a reason to engage with
the platform. So why learn to develop for the iPhone?
The iPhone and its related family of devices (iPad and iPod Touch) are
packed with sensors - a touchscreen, 2 cameras, a microphone, an
accelerometer… taken together, whether used for productivity or games,
they provide an experience unthinkable a few years ago. Major advances
in human - computer interaction are being made right now, and it's
time to get involved.
Apple's multimedia frameworks provide the low-level, responsive access
to the hardware that is required to create compelling apps.
Unfortunately, starting to program for the iPhone can be a daunting
prospect. It involves learning the Objective-C language, the Cocoa
frameworks and getting used to the XCode environment. There are plenty
of step-by-step guides on the internet and in print, but they can
leave you none the wiser.
This course is aimed at those who already have a little experience of
programming, perhaps with a scripting language or a creative-coding
environment such as Processing. It will introduce Objective-C and the
concept of object-oriented programming, along with using Cocoa.
The workshop will be given by Chris Jeffs, author of 4 apps on the
store that have been released this year. More info can be found at
http://chrisjeffs.com
.
REQUIREMENTS - IMPORTANT!
You MUST have a copy of XCode 4 running on your machine. This can be
found on the Mac App Store, or is available for no extra charge to
registered Apple developers.
If you have any questions about the content or installing xcode, email
2649(a)chrisjeffs.com
You don't actually need a device, as limited testing in the iPhone
simulator provided in XCode is possible. However, if you do wish to
install your apps onto real hardware (running iOS 4.3+), it is
recommended to sign up as a developer. This also allows limited ad-hoc
distribution. Information can be found
athttp://developer.apple.com/programs/ios/
. Other solutions (jailbreaking and so on) may work, but will not be
covered in this course.
Dates: Every Tues in Oct (4, 11, 18, 25)
Times: 18:00-22:00
Fee: 25 Euros/session or 80 Euros for all sessions if paid at the
beginning of the course

Pd-Taipei 是一群喜愛Puredata

Hi All,
The first meeting of the Dublin Pd Patching Circle is taking place on October the 15th at 1pm at Moxie studios just off Baggot St.
For Directions see below:http://maps.google.com/maps?client=safari&rls=en&oe=UTF-8&q=google+ma…
You can sign up for this free event by contacting Andy at mcgovern_4(a)hotmail.com or by following this thread:
http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=74617895
Just some information about the format for the first meeting. We are hoping that people attending will show what work they are currently doing in Pd and everyone can chip in with ideas of how to develop a patch or area of work. Then at the end of the session we can have a short brainstorming session looking for ideas that the Pd Dublin Patching Circle can work on as a team. For example I know other Patching Circles have worked together on developing Patches for the MS Kinect! This would be great if we could work together on developing Pd for the community on a whole.
All the Best,Andy

Hey all,
I have some recent recordings I would very much like to share:
HELOpg (Huddersfield Experimental Laptop Orchestra post-grad) recently
recorded 3 Text Scores of mine and they are here:
http://soundcloud.com/julianbrooks
Software is a combination of Pd and Puredyne (me), Max/MSP, Renoise and
ChucK. Plus mic's, sensors and stuff.
Here's a video of a piece for acoustic instrument and electronics which was
recorded with Pat Allison on clarinet.
http://vimeo.com/27899654
I'm aware that the documentation is a bit sketchy and the video is very
basic; it's the first technical run through but hopefully you get the gist.
All made in Pd and I'm happy to share the patch but it's well sketchy (patch
also includes an extensive list of thank you's to the various people who
helped me get this thing together.
Of course, I take all the credit for any errors.
All good wishes,
Julian
