The latest version of aubio, 0.3.0, is now available. aubio is a library
for audio labelling. The goal of this project is to provide automatic
feature extraction algorithms to other audio software projects. Features
include onset detection, beat tracking, and pitch detection. Functions
can be used off-line in sound editors and software samplers, or online
in audio effects and virtual instruments.
This release features several changes and includes a Puredata external,
containing 5 objects:
* aubiopitch~ pitch tracking object, similar to fiddle~ and pick~
* aubioonset~ onset detection, similar to bonk~
* aubiotempo~ beat tracking
* aubiotss~ transient / steady state separation (experimental)
* aubioquiet~ simple silence detector
Not all aubio features are available from PD yet, but onset and pitch
detection routines should be more robust than other existing externals.
Other important changes include:
* new pitch detection method, yinfft
* new beat tracking algorithm (improved from 0.2.0)
* enhancements to the onset detection algorithms
* improved aubiocut, can now slice at beats and silences
* new aubiopitch python program to extract pitch tracks
* plotting features for aubiocut and aubiopitch
* python interface refactored
* updated documentation
As usual, the source code can be found at http://aubio.piem.org/ ,
and Debian packages are available from http://piem.org/debian/ .
Feedback most appreciated!

Hello all,
Resurfacing is currently being installed at the Interaccess Electronic
Media Arts Centre.
The show will up up until Thursday May 25th, so this is the last week to
be able to see it.
A text-only version of the press-release follows:
For Immediate Release May 15, 2006
Media Contact: Ben Bogart, 416-516-5760 to email ben(a)ekran.org
Resurfacing
Resurfacing will be exhibited at:
May 23rd to 25th 2006
12:00pm to 5:00pm at The Interaccess Electronic Media Arts Centre
9 Ossington Avenue, Toronto, ON
Resurfacing is an interactive installation by Ben Bogart and Donna Marie
Vakalis that captures and archives viewpoints or moments from its own
context. Moments are evaluated by how they change over time and the
extent to which they engage the audience. The collection of viewpoints
is projected onto two screens. Each viewpoint is projected one at a time
on a 4x3 foot touch-screen that allows the audience to push through
time. Simultaneously the second screen shows a map of all the viewpoints
in terms of their position in context and their success.
Meaning is a complex tapestry created from patches of theory. These
patches are in constant flux and reorganization. Meaning is the process
of rethinking and reconsidering. The patches of meaning do not always
connect elegantly. Meaning is overgrown with seams. The caretakers of
meaning are not only individuals but a multiplicity of objects and
subjects. Meaning grows from the community negotiation of these seams.
Resurfacing is the shifting of the frames of viewpoint. The flat surface
becomes a deep collection of frames from the present, the past and their
intersections.
Ben Bogart graduated from the New Media program at Ryerson University in
2004. He is an artist, teacher and programmer working in Toronto. Ben
has presented work in Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal, Vancouver, Seattle,
Helsinki, Bergen and Barcelona.
Donna Marie Vakalis is a graduate student of architecture at the
University of Toronto.
Resurfacing is made possible by the Canada council for the Arts, and the
artists gratefully thank the Interaccess Electronic Media Arts Centre,
Artengine, The Design Exchange, The Evolving Stories Studio and KeyTec Inc.

Piksel[1] is an annual event for artists and developers working with free and
open source audiovisual software. Part workshop, part festival, it is
organised in Bergen, Norway, by the Bergen Centre for Electronic Arts (BEK)
[2] and involves participants from more than a dozen countries exchanging
ideas, coding, presenting art and software projects, doing workshops,
performances and discussions on the aesthetics and politics of free and open

The Call for entries 2006 is open until May 15th (postmarked). In Autumn

present in Paris and Berlin an international programming focusing on
film, video and multimedia, gathering works of artists and directors
acknowledged on the international scene along with young artists and not
much distributed directors. The festival aims at presenting those works
to a broad audience, at creating circulations between different art
practices and between different audiences, as well as creating new
exchanges between artists, directors and professionals.
ALL INDIVIDUALS OR ORGANIZATIONS CAN SUBMIT ONE OR SEVERAL PROPOSALS.
THE CALL FOR ENTRIES IS OPEN TO FILM, VIDEO AND MULTIMEDIA CYCLES,
without any restriction of length or genre. All submissions are free,
without any limitation of geographic origin.
FILM AND VIDEO: * Video art / Experimental video * Experimental film *
Documentary * Fiction
MULTIMEDIA: * Installation * Net art, CDrom, DVDrom * Performance art,

regarding the 'Rencontres internationales Paris/Berlin' are available on
our website http://art-action.org/en_info.htm
The 'Rencontres internationales' offer more than a simple presentation
of the works. They introduce an intercultural forum gathering various
guests from all over the world - artists and directors recognized on the
international scene along with young artists and directors who still
cannot enjoy a substantial distribution, directors from organizations
and emerging structures - testifying of the vivacity of creation and its
diffusion, but also of the artistic and cultural contexts that often are
in transition or sometimes experiencing deep changes. The festival
reflects specificities and crossings of contemporary art practices, and
work out this necessary time when points of view meet and are exchanged.

Plus qu'une simple présentation des uvres, les Rencontres
internationales proposent un véritable forum interculturel, en présence
de nombreux invités venus du monde entier, artistes et réalisateurs
reconnus sur la scène internationale aux côtés de jeunes artistes et de

Hi,
I'll do a concert at May 18 2006 as part of the Scene NRW: Baltics
festival. It will be an evening with literature and music, where
besides me the Latvian writer Pauls Bankovskis will read and Selfish
from Lativa will do a DJ set.
All this will happen at the Elektra bar in Cologne, Germany. I will
perform an extended version of the stuff I did at the Linux Audio
Conference 2006, which means lots of physical modelling with [msd2D]
and [msd3D] for visuals and sound in Pure Data.
Some more info, pics and URLs at http://footils.org/cms/show/53
I still haven't found a good name for this performance. Code name
always was: "Faltig" but today another name occured to me with may be
even cuter:
"EinstÌrzende Bauklötze".
Or maybe not.
Ciao
