OPEN technologies workshop, Zaragoza, Spain, June 26th - July 1st
http://www.0j0.org/pmwiki/index.php/Events/GohanDevelopmentJun07
******* FREE WORKSHOP ANNOUNCEMENT *******
Arduino, Pd, and Processing are becoming more and more intertwined.
Sensors controlling software synthesis, robots controlled by video
tracking, custom musical instruments, and more. We are a collection
of developers working with these free software tools. Join us to work
on projects of these combinations, or help us create new
possibilities by bringing these tools ever more intertwined.
This event is a combination of a hacklab and a barcamp. We are
following the ad hoc, participant-driven nature of the barcamp in
combination with the collaborative work studio environment of a
hacklab. If you have not been to a hacklab, barcamp, and/or
unconference before, here are a couple of good references to get an
idea of the way it is done:
BarCamp on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BarCamp
There will be workshops and talks, and plenty of time to work. We
will all be working together to create projects which will then be
exhibited in Zaragoza. Bring one or more of the following: ideas,
projects, a desire to learn, a desire to teach. Come everyday to pick
up skills and finish your project. Come whenever you can to learn new
bits and pieces, and help build compelling things to exhibit!
Dates & Location:
June 26th (Tuesday) - July 1st (Sunday)
Centro de Historia
Pl. San Agustín 2

pdp_qt/pdp_yqt doesn't work with all codecs (yet?). Try MJPEG, JPEG,
PNG. Those are among the best codecs to use for live video
processing anyway since they take the least CPU to decode.

GOTO10 @ folly Summer School of Sound
June 27, 28, 29 2007 / 10am - 4pm
St Martins College, Lancaster
This year's Summer School of Sound will be led by GOTO10.
Marloes de Valk and Aymeric Mansoux will lead a three day course,
exploring free and open source software available for home studio purposes
such as audio and midi sequencers, sound editors and virtual effect
racks, as well as the creative possibilities of puredata in an audio
workstation setup. The course will also provide information on how
to release and publish your work online (from encoding, to licensing
and streaming).
The Summer School of Sound will also include an evening performance on
Thursday 28 June by GOTO10 artists de Valk and Mansoux, as well as
Claude Heiland-Allen and Chun Lee.
The three day summer school is aimed at musicians, designers, artists
and those with an interest in multimedia technologies who want to
explore how new digital technologies can help and inspire us when
working with music and sound.
Participants do not need a high level of technological or programming
skills, although these would be beneficial. A strong interest in one or
more of the following areas is essential: sound art, music, technology,
open source software.

Booking fees and deadline:
Organisational rate: £250
Individual rate: £150
To apply for a place please email Jennifer Stoddart, Programme
Co-ordinator at jennifer.stoddart 'at' folly.co.uk with brief details of

*Crouching Table, Hidden Pointer--Pure Data for soundfiles and live
sampling with Derek Holzer*
The Shaolin Temple secret for manipulating recorded sound in Pure Data
lies in the arcane arts of the Table. Seekers of enlightenment will be
shown how to load soundfiles from the harddrive into tables, or capture
live audio from the microphone, so that these sounds can be looped,
stretched, pitchshifted, granulated and mangled. The Way is a long and
dangerous one, and some basic understanding of PD is recommended, but
some of you will triumph!
Time will also be set aside for responding to participants' questions
about their own PD audio projects.
---What to bring:
Essential:
1) Laptop running Linux, OS X or Windows
2) Pure Data Extended installed from:
http://at.or.at/hans/pd/installers.html
3) Soundcard (internal or external, quality a non-issue)
4) Headphones
5) EUR 10 participation fee
Recommended/Suggested:
1) MIDI controller/keyboard
2) Microphone
3) USB Joystick
4) Your own soundfiles (WAV, AIFF format)
5) Your own PD audio projects for feedback
---About the Teacher

then, he has taught and performed with the program across Europe, North
America, Brazil and New Zealand. His work focuses on field recording,
networked collaboration strategies, experiments in improvisational sound
and the use of free software such as Pure-Data. Holzer has released
tracks under the Nexsound, Sirr, and/OAR, Frozen Elephants Music and
Gruenrekorder labels, and has co-initiated several internet projects for
field recording and collaborative soundscapes including Soundtransit.nl.
He is currently writing a Pure Data beginner's manual for the FLOSS
Manuals project.
