'flite.h' seems to be missing from the distribution...won't configure.
looking forward to trying it, dan
You need to install the CMU flite libraries -- get them from http://cmuflite.org. Compile them on their own (you might need the 'flite-1.1-noaudio.patch' in my distribution), and specify the full path to the directory where you built them to the './configure' script of pd-flite with the option "--with-flite-dir=FLITE_DIR":
# -- Unpack both distributions tar xvzf flite-1.1-release.tar.gz tar xvzf pd-flite-0.01.tar.gz
# -- build flite libraries cd flite-1.1-release patch -p1 < ../pd-flite-0.01/flite-1.1-noaudio.patch ;# optional ./configure --with-audio=none make
# -- build and install pd-flite cd ../pd-flite-0.01 ./configure --with-flite-dir=$PWD/../flite-1.1-release make make install
... see the output of pd-flite "./configure --help" for defaults. "configure" looks for 'flite.h' in ${FLITE_DIR}/include. Similarly, it looks for 'libflite.a' etc. in ${FLITE_DIR}/lib.
hope it helps...

greetings again,

Announcing PD external "flite":
'flite' is a PD external which provides a high-level text-to-speech interface for English based on the 'libflite' library by Alan W Black and Kevin A. Lenzo.
Currently tested only under linux.
More immediately useable than "klatt~" (see my last post), but it gobbles both memory and CPU time.
Again, I'll wait about a week to hear any objections before I upload the code to the sourceforge repository. Until then, it's available from me:
http://www.ling.uni-potsdam.de/~moocow/projects/pd
The 'flite' external requires the CMU "flite" libraries from: http://cmuflite.org/
