Hi,
here's a new bugfix release for vstplugin~ - a Pd external to load VST
plugins in Pd on Windows, macOS and Linux.
Binaries are available on Deken or here:
https://git.iem.at/pd/vstplugin/-/releases
Please report any issues at https://git.iem.at/pd/vstplugin/issues.
Have fun!

CHANGELOG
## features
* CMake option to create statically linked binaries on Linux
## bug fixes
* fix bug when opening a plugin via creation arguments (it wouldn't
remember the "-e" flag and possibly lead to crashes when closing the plugin)
* fix memory leak in destructor
ELSE 1.0 Beta 27 is out! Numerous bug fixes in this one, so it seems I'm
now concentrating on fixing things rather than creating a bunch of new
objects. This means I might be getting quite close on moving to a phase of
"release candidate". By the way, I was waiting for Pd 0.51 to come out so I
could use some of the new stuff (namely the new powers of inlet~), but
it'll have to wait as development has been paused since xmas (hope it picks
up again soon)! A heads up is that this will promote many breaking changes
in several objects.
The highlight of this release is the many new features and redesign I made
to [else/pic], which I'm very proud now. A main fix is getting [keyboard]
to work again and another nice thing to mention is that I've implemented
zoom features for some of the GUI objects. See Changelog in the release
notes for more details => <
https://github.com/porres/pd-else/releases/tag/v1.0-beta27>.
Wait a little until all binaries are available and up in Deken! I'm still
waiting for a friend to send me raspberry pi binaries.
The Live Electronics Tutorial has also been updated, see release notes for
more info:

---
*** Change Log ***
New features:
* better error messages when plugins fail to load (e.g. wrong CPU architecture)
* automatically scan VST3 presets
* new simplified preset management system, using named presets which are saved to standard locations (the old methods remain for power users).
* new vstpresetbrowser.pd abstraction
* improved vstpluginbrowser.pd: better GUI + plugins can be filtered by keyword, type, category and vendor
* [open( can be called asynchronously and responds with [open <success>(
* preset methods can be called asynchronously and respond with messages, e.g. [preset_load <success>(
* [reset( can be executed asynchronously and responds with [reset(.
* [search_stop( method to cancel an asynchronous plugin search.
* [param_list(, [program_list( and [preset_list( accept an optional plugin key argument
* [info( also outputs the VST SDK version.
* experimental support for PDINSTANCE (untested)
Bug fixes:
* fixed serveral bugs in the VST3 implementation
* fix crash when calling [midi_*( methods without plugin
* don't lock Pd when receiving events from the GUI thread if DSP is running, instead set an atomic flag and set a clock in the perform routine. This avoids dead-locks in certain plugins and also improves realtime-safety.

ICAD 2020 Call for Submission of Papers, Extended Abstracts, Workshops,
and Tutorials26th International Conference on Auditory DisplayUniversity of
Florida, Gainesville, FL, USAJune 7-11 2020THEME: “SAFE AND SOUND”
Sound is used in a wide variety of applications to alert listeners to the
status of a person or environment. At ICAD 2020, we want to highlight
sonification work that is used to maintain awareness in some capacity
(outside navigation, hospitals, air traffic control, etc). Papers are not
limited to this theme, as we will value and embrace all types of
submissions, including papers, posters, multimedia (videos/audios), demos,
and concert pieces.
First held in 1992, ICAD is a highly interdisciplinary academic conference
with relevance to researchers, practitioners, musicians, and students
interested in the design of sounds to support tasks, improve performance,
guide decisions, augment awareness, and enhance experiences. It is unique
in its singular focus on auditory displays and the array of perception,
technology, and application areas that this encompasses. Like its
predecessors, ICAD 2020 will be a single-track conference, open to all,
with no membership or affiliation requirements.
ICAD 2020, the 26th International Conference on Auditory Display, will be
held at the University of Florida, June 7 to 11, 2020. The graduate student
ThinkTank (doctoral consortium) will be held on Sunday, June 7, before the
main conference.
PAPERS AND EXTENDED ABSTRACTS
The ICAD 2020 committee is seeking papers and extended abstracts that will
contribute to knowledge of how sonification can support awareness in
various contexts. For details on topics of interest, proposal format,
submission instructions, and additional conference information please visit
http://icad2020.icad.org , where details will be updated as they are made
available.
WORKSHOPS AND TUTORIALS
ICAD workshops and tutorials provide in-depth opportunities for conference
attendees to discuss and explore important aspects of the field of auditory
display with like-minded researchers and practitioners. Sessions can range
from applications and programming methodologies to interdisciplinary
research skills, emerging research areas, and challenge problems, to
sonification/compositional Maker-sessions.

First Call for Papers: 2020 Joint Conference on AI Music Creativity
(CSMC + MuMe)
Oct 22-24 2020 @ KTH and KMH, Stockholm, Sweden
http://kth.se/aimusic2020
The computational simulation of musical creativity continues to be an
exciting and significant area of academic research, and is now making
impacts in commercial realms. Such systems pose several theoretical and
technical challenges, and are the result of an interdisciplinary effort
that encompasses the domains of music, artificial intelligence,
cognitive science and philosophy. This can be seen within the broader
realm of Musical Metacreation, which studies the design and use of such
generative tools and theories for music making: discovery and
exploration of novel musical styles and content, collaboration between
human performers and creative software “partners”, and design of systems
in gaming and entertainment that dynamically generate or modify music.
The 2020 Joint Conference on AI Music Creativity brings together for the
first time two overlapping but distinct research forums: The Computer
Simulation of Music Creativity conference
(https://csmc2018.wordpress.com, est. 2016), and The International
Workshop on Musical Metacreation (http://musicalmetacreation.org, est.
2012). The principal goal is to bring together scholars and artists
interested in the virtual emulation of musical creativity and its use
for music creation, and to provide an interdisciplinary platform to
promote, present and discuss their work in scientific and artistic contexts.
The three-day program will feature two keynotes, research paper
presentations, demonstrations, discussion panels, and two concerts.
Keynote lectures will be delivered by Professor Emeritus Dr. Johan
Sundberg (Speech, Music and Hearing, KTH,
https://scholar.google.co.uk/citations?user=UXXUEcoAAAAJ
<https://scholar.google.co.uk/citations?user=UXXUEcoAAAAJ&hl=en&oi=ao>)
and Dr. Alice Eldridge (Music, Sussex University, UK,
https://scholar.google.co.uk/citations?user=uvFGFagAAAAJ).
Topics
We encourage submissions of work on topics related to CSMC and MuMe,
including, but not limited to, the following:

Work-in-progress papers (5 pages maximum, not including references);
*
Demonstrations (3 pages maximum, not including references).
The templates will be released early 2020, and EasyChair submission link
opened soon thereafter. Please check the conference website for updates:
http://kth.se/aimusic2020
Since we will use single-blind reviewing, submissions do not have to be
anonymized. Each submission will receive at least three reviews. All
papers should be submitted as complete works. Demo systems should be
tested and working by the time of submission, rather than be
speculative. We encourage audio and video material to accompany and
illustrate the papers (especially for demos). We ask that authors
arrange for their web hosting of audio and video files, and give URL
links to all such files within the text of the submitted paper.
Accepted full papers will be published in a proceedings with an ISBN.
Furthermore, selected papers will be invited for expansion and
consideration for publication in the Journal of Creative Music Systems
(https://www.jcms.org.uk).

Several people asked for an update of project Slice//Jockey. It dates
from Pd-Extended times. SliceJockey3 finally works with vanilla Pd.
Find it here:
www.katjaas.nl/slicejockey/slicejockey.html
It needs a few external libraries which are available from deken for
all current platforms. The project was verified to work on Linux
(Intel and ARM), MacOS and Windows (tested through Wine).
