## Call for Papers and Performances
ICLI is an interdisciplinary conference focusing on the role of interfaces in all artistic performance activities. We encourage critical and reflective approaches to key themes in the design and use of live interfaces. A wide range of theoretical and practice-based approaches are welcomed by people from all possible research, art and other practice backgrounds.
The fifth International Conference on Live Interfaces will take place at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, NTNU, 9-11 March 2020. This biennial conference will bring together people working with live interfaces in the performing arts, including music, the visual arts, theatre, dance, puppetry, robotics or games. The conference scope is highly interdisciplinary but with a focus on interface technologies of expression in the area of performance. Note that technologies here can be understood in the widest possible sense. Topics of liveness, immediacy, presence (and tele-presence), mediation, collaboration and timing or flow are engaged with and questioned in order to gain a deeper understanding of the role contemporary media technologies play in human expression.
The special theme of the 2020 conference is
### Artificial Intelligence. Artistic Intelligence. Automated Emotional Intelligence.
A.I. is relatively widespread and ubiquitous within interfaces for artistic expression. Within this domain we can also include various sorts of automation and algorithmic extensions, as this constitutes a form of external agency that allows us to do more – more than we could unassisted by these technologies. How does this affect the artistic expression? Is it merely a convenience and an affordance to allow us to interface to complex domains, and as such just extend our inherent abilities? Or, does it imply a deeper impact on how the art is made? We can assume that all interfaces affect what we can do in profound ways. The difference with A.I. and machine learning in general is that the internal workings of the algorithms to a larger extent is a black box. We understand to a lesser degree how the internals of neural networks actually work, and then, how do we understand what we do as artists with these interfaces?

## Collaboration with Meta.Morf
This ICLI collaborates with the Meta.Morf biennal for art and technology (http://metamorf.no/), taking place in Trondheim from March 3 to May 5. The Meta.Morf opening week is 5-10 March, and ICLI will commence immediately after. This creates a special opportunity to spend some quality time in Trondheim, in the company of both the ICLI and the Meta.Morf crowd. ICLI attendees will get a discount on Meta.Morf tickets. The theme for Meta.Morf 2020 is “The digital wild” - bending and twisting our illusions about digital futures. Come stay a full week in Trondheim and get the best of both worlds.

Several problems with zooming from 0.50test1 are fixed. There are numerous
reported bugs still, but no show-stoppers, and I'm way late getting this
out. So I'm putting off fixing many of them till the next release.

Georgia Tech's 2020 Margaret Guthman Musical Instrument Competition is an
annual event aimed at identifying the world's next generation of musical
instruments and unveiling the best new ideas in musicality, design,
engineering, and impact.
The Guardian called the competition "The Pulitzer of the New Instrument
World," and The New York Times described the "special, otherworldly sound
that you can feel permeating your soul" which became the hallmark of the
competition. Fast Company explained how Guthman's "Futuristic Instruments
will change how we make music," and the Atlanta Magazine suggests that "at
the Guthman Competition, innovative instruments just might predict the
future of music."
The Guthman Competition will take place March 6-7, 2020 at Georgia Tech's
Ferst Center for the Arts, in Atlanta, Georgia.
The deadline for submissions is October 1, 2019. Approximately Fifteen
semi-finalists will be invited to demonstrate, discuss, and perform with
their instruments as they compete for $10,000 in cash prizes.

Hi, I'm happy to announce the new version of ofelia.
ofelia is a Pd external which allows you to use openFrameworks and Lua.

The new version provides all available openFrameworks functions and class
methods as Pd objects. (1,770 objects) Meaning, you don't need to write Lua
scripts to use unsupported feature since they all exist as Pd objects.
Also, ofelia now provides documentation for all objects. You can simply
double click on any object to open the help file or the documentation page
in your browser. You can see a full categorized list of objects from the
"help-intro.pd" patch.
Lastly, you can create a standalone application for macOS, Windows, Linux,
Raspbian, iOS and Android using ofxOfelia, an openFrameworks addon for
ofelia. It will be also possible to create web applications using ofelia
soon.

countries exchanging ideas, coding, presenting art and software

The jmmmp library of abstractions has been updated.
New features and improvements to [multiarray] were prepared:
- removed dependency from iemguts and multiarray-unit.pd external
- array visibility
- ID check and ID status query
- save and load multiarray data
- x and y scaling
[multiarray] is an abstraction to store and operate several graphical
arrays in one graphical container.

Howdy, the main feature in ELSE is the ability to set exponential curves in
the [envgen~] object. I'm really proud of this as this makes this object
the most versatile and complete envelope generator for Pd by far. There's
basically nothing missing I can think of (except maybe add multiple sustain
points eventually). The [function~] object can also generate exponential
curves, in the same way as [envgen~], and this is cool to draw some crazy
waveforms.
The [dir] object has suffered a major overhaul (with breaking changes) and
includes new features. I'm also pretty proud of this one as it really makes
it easy opening, browsing and managing files in a directory. This has
always given me quite a headache and I think I finally nailed it. The last
highlights is that [sort] can now sort symbols, and there are 3 new objects
to manage lists ([sum], [slice] and [stream]). More details at

binaries are available there and in a few hours this will be available via
deken so you can download directly from Pd.
