hi all
netpd significantly changed. whole netpd is now only one patch,
therefore no additional configuration is necessary, when installing
netpd. the required pathes and libs are now loaded internally by chat
with an appropriate [declare]. the 'netpd-path' setting became obsolet,
because patches are now instantiated as abstractions (no 'open' message
to pd anymore).
i hope all this makes the netpd experience a bit less troublefull
(especially for beginners and pd-extended users) and much more fun,
though it haven't been extensively tested yet.
dependencies:
mandatory:
pd >= 0.40 (i hope pd-0.40-extended will be released soon)
zexy >= 2.1
maxlib
optional (used by some netpd-patches):
iemlib1
iemlib2
iem_t3_lib
iemmatrix
where to get:
http://www.netpd.org/Downloadhttp://www.netpd.org/software/netpd.tar.gz
how to contribute:
i hadn't the chance to extensively test on pd-0.40-extended. i'd be glad
to get reports from pd-extended users. the intention is that, after
downloading and extracting netpd.tar.gz to some place, _chat.pd can be
openened from pd-extended and everything should be fine (no errors).
i'll be online (on netpd or irc #dataflow) for assistance.
roman
---------------------------------------------------------------
changes:
whole netpd is one single patch now. creator and logview are
abstractions of chat, all netpd-patches are now abstractions of
creator. because of that, the path adding feature of [declare]
could be used. this also means, that no additional configuration
is needed anymore, when installing netpd. in other words:
- no '-lib' as start option isn't required anymore, if libs are
necessary are installed at standard location.
- no '-path ..path/to/netpd/abs' required anymore as start option
- no 'netpd-path' settings is needed anymore
- creator v1.5.0
* new gui with scrollbar
* internal patch management restructured/reprogrammed
* patches are not opened anymore (with 'open' message to pd) but
are instantiated as abstraction in an own subpatch each.
* added a subpatch [pd cr.singletons]. since there is no clean way
to implement a singleton pattern in pd, this subpatch was introduced
as a place, where netpd-patches can put their singletons. the goal is
that the singletons remain open, also when the patch, that initially
called the singleton, is closed.
- chat v1.4.0
* added scrollbar, so that old messages can be reviewed
* added client dependent message colors
* redesigned gui
* redesigned netpd-settings dialog ('pref')
* creator and logview are instantiated as abstractions now

The 'Rencontres Internationales' offer more than a simple presentation
of the works. They introduce an intercultural forum gathering various
guests from all over the world - artists and filmmakers, institutions
and emerging organisations - to testify of the vivacity of creation and
its distribution, but also of the artistic and cultural contexts that
often are experiencing deep changes. The festival reflects specificities
and crossings of art practices between new cinema and contemporary art,
explores media art practices and their critical purposes, and work out
this necessary time when points of view meet and are exchanged.
The festival aims at presenting those works to a broad audience, at
creating circulations between different art practices and between
different audiences, as well as creating new exchanges between artists,
filmmakers and professionals. The 'Rencontres Internationales
Paris/Berlin/Madrid', an event without competition, are supported by
French, German, Spanish and international cultural institutions.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SPREAD OUT THIS PIECE OF INFORMATION to creative
organizations, art networks, production companies, artists and
filmmakers you are in contact with.
Best wishes.

Linux Audio Conference 2008
Lectures / Demos / Workshops / Concerts / Linux Soundnight
Köln/Cologne, 28.2.-2.3.2008
The 6th Linux Audio Conference is taking place in Cologne (Germany) Feb 28th to
March 2nd 2008.
The Academy of Media Arts[1], Cologne, is proud to host the Linux Audio Conference
2008[2], where once a year programmers and artists, musicians, composers and
practioneers gather to discuss and explore new and important developments in
making music and sounds with Linux and Open Source software.
The Linux Audio Conference is both a meeting of developers writing audio
software for Linux as it is a music festival, where artists from all over the
world show how free software can create fresh and exciting new sounds.
A wide range of workshops, talks and presentations will once again prove, how
Tux, the friendly penguin, spreads its little wings into areas, that no longer
are the realm for the big fish alone - like computer music, sound engineering
and audio distribution. The LAC aims at bringing together developers and users
of Linux and open source audio software with the goal of information sharing,
project discussions, making (and dancing to) music.
Each day of the conference there will be a concert which features music
composed and created with open source software.
Stay tuned for the various calls for Papers, Music and Workshops bound to
appear on the new LAC website - http://lac.linuxaudio.org - right after the
summer break.
The team of LAC2008 is working hard to make the LAC Cologne again a successful
and most of all fun event for all visitors and participants. If you have
further questions, want to cooperate with us or just cannot wait anymore, you
can always contact us by email: lac(a)linuxaudio.org
Hear you in 2008!

Hi,
advert break: The (leading) german computer magazine c't [1] has a
6-page Pd tutorial in its 17/07 issue (in stores Aug 6), written by
yours truly.
It's a basic introduction geared towards absolute beginners. But I've
managed to smuggle (at least) two small mistakes into the example
patches[2] that advanced users can search for. ;)
