In an ongoing attempt to find the root of my audio problems when using a firewire soundcard with jack/freebob, I just installed the latest stable version of jack (0.109.2), and I am now coming up with this error when using the latest autobuild of pd-extended:
error: JACK error: client linked with incompatible libjack version.
Does this mean that I have to use the jack that comes packaged in Debian/ubuntu, the 6-month old 0.102 version? If so, that is a bummer, since svn Ardour requires a version of jack newer than that..
regards, Rich
Use a different package, like Debian/testing or Ubuntu/Hardy. Or
build it yourself.

I built pd-extended from svn. I just don't understand why this is necessary in my case. I thought it wouldn't matter if my library is newer, but compatible, than the one the binary packages were compiled with.

"compatible" is the key word there. As the error message says,
"client linked with incompatible libjack version"

If nature has made any one thing less susceptible than all others of
exclusive property, it is the action of the thinking power called an
idea, which an individual may exclusively possess as long as he keeps
it to himself; but the moment it is divulged, it forces itself into
the possession of everyone, and the receiver cannot dispossess
himself of it. - Thomas Jefferson
