Preset management for Pd Vanilla

Never really needed fancy preset management other than storing messages in a basic vanilla way. But I've seen people mention how Pd lacks a nice preset system. Not that I know what a fancy one actually needs since I never felt the demand. So I'm here to ask what people use in Pd Vanilla, be it a pure vanilla solution or an external. And also to ask what people miss. This is what I came up with as a pure vanilla abstraction, it's based on [text] and [savestate]. You can have many of these on your patch and use them to recall presets for any parameters. It takes any kind of messages. I'm making use of built-in sends and receives in the number boxes to make the patch cleaner. Just think that you can have separate control of each parameter having its own preset or group all of them together globally, or a group here and another there, whatever... Once you save the patch, the presets you saved get stored in the patch. As for my current idea for my ELSE library, I'm using an object similar to grab to take messages from [receive] objects. It's a development over this original vanilla abstraction. My first draft is this, I hope that sharing the screenshot give you a nice idea. soundtouch~ for Pd Vanilla

Hi folks, I'm on a vibe of uploading missing libraries and objects for Pd Vanilla on deken. On the list I have FFTease, Lyonpotpourri, CICM-Tools and more stuff that I'm looking into, just so you know... Now, I see there's an old soundtouch~ external here: http://www.katjaas.nl/pitchshift/soundtouch~.html - it's "version 0.9" by Katja Vetter. It was developed with SoundTouch version 1.6 and Pure Data version 0.42. I tested on Pd 0.51-4 32 bits on mac and it works fine. There are binaries for download on the link above, but not for 64 bits. I wonder if anyone wants to help me build these with pd-lib-builder and all. Now, the ceammc librarym (and Pd-ceammc distribution) has a soundtouch~ external too. It's the same name, but not the same external, this one is marked as "version 0.1". So we do already have "a" soundtouch~ for vanilla, but I wanted to also get katja's external up there. So I just uploaded the download from that page here https://github.com/porres/pd-soundtouch - It's just the download as it is and we need to change to hopefully use pd-lib-builder, which would make things easier. I did try that and it didn't work. So, anyone onboard with this? cheers

MIDI specifications for Multidimensional Polyphonic Expression (MPE) in Pd

some new objects for MPE Midi is on Max's new update, just googled it to see what it was http://expressiveness.org/2015/04/24/midi-specifications-for-multidimension… wonder if you guys know anything about this and if anyone would be into bringing this to Pd. cheers

Some confusion about linux amd64-64 and linux amd64-32 in deken, and what are all the possible variations?

Hello list! I have some questions regarding the architectures available in deken I noticed that deken has many different architectures possible for the packages, as i checked by now (not an exhaustive search) there is at least 8 for linux, (amd64-32, amd64-64, i386-32, arm64-32, armv6-32, armv7-32, armv7-64, armv7l-32), at least 4 for mac (amd64-32, x86_64-32, i386-32, PowerPC-32) and at least 2 for windows (amd64-32, i386-32). There are more? And are they correct? Should i expect that all mac and windows may have the -64 variant too? I ask this because I want to create a table showing all the externals available and which downloads are possible from deken, together with descriptions for each external, so i want to know what are the possible architectures that I am missing... see the (unfinished) table here https://pdwiki.miraheze.org/wiki/List_of_Externals#List_of_Externals So for the first question of the e-mail, what is the difference between amd64-64 and amd64-32? I guess that the first name would be for the architecture of the system, and then the last 32 or 64 would be for single or double precision... but if I search for bandlimited in deken for example, i get that its package is amd64-64 for linux, and i can install it on normal pd, but pd double refuses it, as it is a 32bit-float object. Well, bandlimited was uploaded in 2016, way before the pd double came to vanilla (maybe 2019?), so it makes sense that it is 32bit-float... But there were other reasons for it (and other externals, some from extended) to be packaged as linux amd64-64 instead of amd64-32?

[key], [keyup] and operating system key reapat

Hi list, I can't seem to get my head around different behavior of the [key] and [keyup] objects on different OSes and even within the same OS. I discovered that for depressed keys after an initial delay -Pd on Debian will report repeated key ups and downs, -Pd on Windows does not, -Pd on OS X may or may not. Could a few of us test this quickly and report their findings here maybe? Thanks! Peter

Pd, pipewire, and MIDI

Ok. This jostled some things loose for me. I believe I've compiled Pd with the right flags. Apparently, I had failed to test the option /dev/midi2. I noticed when the keyboard wasn't plugged in that only /dev/midi1 was listed. I'd still expect when using -alsamidi that Pd would show Alsa-style labels like UMC404HD and MPKmini2, but I only recently switched to Linux as my daily driver and hadn't experimented with MIDI yet. Still no luck compiling with alsa-midi support. I must still be missing something. Is this the correct configuration to compile? ./configure --enable-jack --disable-oss --enable-portmidi Is portmidi MIDI through alsa? That's how it is described on the portmidi site. Pd doesn't have an --enable-alsa-midi flag, so I assume it's got to be something else. With the above configuration, my MIDI options are still /dev/midi1 and /dev/midi2. Aren't these the expected devices for OSS? I've disabled OSS. Neither qpwgraph, qjackctl, nor aconnect show MIDI ports for Pd. Pd, pipewire, and MIDI

Pop_OS just changed over to pipewire as its audio backend. It's working great with Pd, but I can't seem to get MIDI working. I have an Akai MPK mini connected, but the only things that show up in MIDI Settings are /dev/midi1 and /dev/midi2. Do I need to compile Pd with other flags? Sam

filter stability

hi list, I'm using a 2nd order lowpass resonant filter whose coefficients I'm getting from the famous Eq-cookbook and using it inside a feedback loop to implement karplus-strong. I also have a coded object for that (pluck~) and the 'q' parameter is 0.5, which is a "safe" setting, i.e. the filter doesn't get unstable and blows up. I was now trying to find a higher 'q' coefficient but it's hard to know where I can go "exactly" just under it could blow up. Is there an easy way to know this other than trial and error? thanks
