Serial Interface comport for NT and Linux

Since we somebody asked, I have updated the comport external (serial interface) now that it works on Linux and NT. See: http://iem.kug.ac.at/pdwiki/index.php?ComPort http://iem.kug.ac.at/ritsch/programmier/pd_externals/ Needed help: Since I am no W!nd!ws-Guru: There is in the VC-Help mentioned that using this kind of ReadFile(...) function could block. Since I set the timeouts to zero it works ok on my machines. I have tried the Eventhandler-Wait-Stuff but didnt succeed with that. So PLEASE W!nd!ws-Gurus out there have a look at the code and correct it, if needed and send me a note (ritsch(a)iem.kug.ac.at). ...thanx in advance mfg winfried

Error compiling PD

Hi. I have RH 7.1 with kernel 2.4.9 Compiled only with Sound Card support. Complete list of PD Externals?

Is there a way to generate a listing from the Pure Data Base at http://iem.kug.ac.at/pdb/ (or from somewhere else) of the available externals, including where they're found and their descriptions? The best that I've been able to get from the interface are either a list of the names without other information, requiring me to click on each to see what they do, or string searches which tend to miss descriptions that don't use the same wording that I guess. The PC on which I use PD isn't online, and it would be good to be able to download a listing and either print it out or sneakernet it over to that computer so I can check it out offline. segmented patch cords

I've started working on segmented patch cords. No promises that it will work, but I think I've gotten past the "proof of concept" stage (still need to figure out cut/paste and loading/saving). Yet another case where I may not be understanding something: I'm using the +~ object to mix audio streams in some of my patches. In most cases it does that, but there are a few points in which it seems to be modulating one stream with the other, rather than just mixing them. This is most pronounced when at higher volumes. I thought that I might be overloading my amplifier, but it acts the same if listened to through headphones. midi again

hi, thanks to greg I know how multiple midi devices _should_ work now, but I experience a strange problem when starting pd with -nomidiout -midiindev 5,6 I can trigger events from my master keyboard (/dev/midi04), but when changing anything on the faderbox (/dev/midi05) pd spits out watchdog msgs and has to be killed. Strangely this also happens when I start it using -midiindev 5 only, -midiindev 6 only - as soon as I use the other device pd hangs. If I use another app that connects to the second midi port before I start pd both apps repond to midi events accordingly, no problems ... BTW this is the very beta ediroland usb midi driver, so th bug could well be there (I'll check this ASAP), pd is 0.35-test-4 with alsa. is anyone having similar problems ? anyone else using a usb midi interface under linux ? regards, x and I might add a little (y65k compliant) happy_hangover (unsigned)0x07d2; -- chris(a)lo-res.org Postmodernism is german romanticism with better http://pilot.fm/ special effects. Compared to many of you, what I'm doing PD-wise is pretty simple, but those of you on the tour path might be interested... In his solo and ensemble performances and workshops, he works to create music that is both complex and clear, exemplifying the best that each person can bring to free and structured improvisation. His recent recording, "All Souls", in collaboration with Thomas Bickley, presents a free long-form improvisation, created on the spot with intertwining voices exploring the architecture and objects in a resonant room and its surroundings. His latest recording, "Collaborations", captures live improvisations performed with bassists F. Vattel Cherry and Jane Wang, with percussionist Brian Fending, and with guitarist Jonathan Matis (both members, along with Zitt, Bickley, and Matthew Ross Davis, of the ensemble Gray Code), as well as a studio collaborations with Thomas Bickley and Craque. His newest book, "Surprise Me With Beauty: the Music of Human Systems", collects writings and scores from over 20 years that present and embody new visions of human interaction through structured group improvisation. Believing, as John Cage said, that "the performance of a piece of music can be a metaphor ... of how we want society to be", Zitt develops and discusses the creation of ensemble musics that are clear, multifaceted, and enjoyable. These scores help reveal and encourage people's strengths in performance while allowing for acceptance of and recovery from honest human frailty and error. Composer Pauline Oliveros has called the book "a wonderful invitation to participate in making music for musicians, interested people, and educators. Joseph Zitt studied cantorial music at Yeshiva University, electronic and ethnic music and composition at Rutgers University with Daniel Goode, Phillip Corner, and Barbara Benary, and voice with Martha Randall.
