Hi, Another question in a very general vein. I asked this on the Csound list a while back (when i was using csound) with good results. I'm trying to produce an acidy type sound (eg 303) and having trouble as my current saw-tooth-through-a-vcf just sounds pretty wimpy. Any ideas on how to fatten it up a bit? I'm not looking for a perfect reproduction of the 303 sound, just a nice acid sound. Hints? Tips? Is there some place where people post interesting Pd patches they've created for others to download at try out? Should there be? display waveform in GEM

Following an idea from Gerhard Daurer, I'd like to look into displaying the waveform of an audiofile in a Gemwin. Gerhard sent me a prototype of a very cool patch combining my Particle Chamber with PMPD and GEM, which uses physical modelling to visually control the granulation of a soundfile. (And I hope he posts this same prototype here soon!) In his version, he has only a set number of audiofiles to choose from, so he simply loads a JPG of the waveform into the Gemwin. However, I'd like to be able to load any wav file into this and get some visual feedback (i.e. be able to see the peaks). This would be a one-time operation, and not something that would be changing in realtime (except maybe a zoom in and out), however I would like that displaying the peaks doesn't interrupt audio processing (as drawing a table would). I'd like to use GEM for this so that the various grains could be graphically represented on top of the waveform. I'm open for PDP implementations, but I don't really consider PDP cross-platform so I'd rather stick with GEM. creb installation problems

question regarding -rt flag and Gem lib

Hi all, Now that I've got most of the stuff up-and-running on my fresh Ubuntu install, I've noticed a peculiar behavior: 1) When I start pd *without* -rt flag and with -lib Gem, when using Gem everything is ok in terms of 3D visualization and performance 2) However, when I start pd *with* -rt flag and with -lib Gem, when using Gem every time I try to move a window (Gem-created or the Pd canvas), every 1-2 seconds, the whole X freezes (including mouse) and pd-watchdog kicks in after which the X-unfreezes and I can more window some more until it freezes again for a couple of seconds. Once I release the window, the Gem performs normally. Clicking on the pd or Gem window canvas does not cause any problems (although I did not check with examples that use mouse to move objects inside Gem window). Any ideas why this is happening? 3) Also, while I am asking away, I noticed that when starting pd -rt -jack -lib <anylib> I get connected to jack for a split second and then bumped off after which I need to kill-off pd. Now, if I start with pd with oss with -rt and -lib <anylib> and then select jack in the Media menu, it connects to jack and is all happy. Any ideas how I can make jack more tolerant without bouncing pd? System specs: Laptop m6805 (athlon64 3000+) Ubuntu hoary 5.04 (32-bit) Ati 9600 mobility with latest fglrx 8.14.3 drivers from ATI (tried the same thing with older drivers 8.12 and 8.8 and it behaved the same) Xorg 6.8.2 (no composite nor any other cpu-hogging stuff) I am using pd 38.4-2 from source, Gem 0.90 from source, externs from source, Alsa 1.0.9b from source, and Jack 0.99 from source. Kernel 2.6.10 (vanilla Ubuntu + realtime_lsm module + capabilities) Running without sound behaves the same so Alsa/jack should not be an issue for the first 2 points. help needed figuring out why pd on ubuntu hangs

Hi all, I just recently upgraded to Ubuntu and even though the distro comes with pd debs included when I install the package or even if I try to compile from source the following happens regardless of what flags I pass to pd: ico@64bit-ubuntu:~/Desktop/pd-0.38-4-devel-1$ pd -verbose Pd version 0.38.4 devel compiled 20:48:09 Jun 2 2005 port 5400 TCL_LIBRARY="/usr/local/lib/pd/tcl/library" TK_LIBRARY="/usr/local/lib/pd/tk/library" "/usr/local/lib/pd/bin/pd-gui" 5400 Waiting for connection request... Obviously, if I don't use "verbose" flag I don't get the printout below the call, but whichever way I try to spawn the application (including various flag combinations), the end result is the same: the pd at this point simply waits (hangs) as if there is no connection to be made. Ctrl+c at this point gives me: Pd: signal 2 I tried prepackaged deb for ubuntu, as well as 0.37.1 extended and 0.38.4 devel non-extended versions from source and they all behave in the same fashion. What is interesting is that there are no /usr/local/lib/pd/tcl/library and /usr/local/lib/pd/tk/library folders, but even when I tried sym-linking them to appropriate lib folders, that still failed. Furthermore, from looking into other people's posts, apparently on their machines this worked as I saw, according to their included logs, that their versions of pd also looked into these folders. To make the matters worse, I am in a quite bit of a time bind and therefore I would greatly appreciate any help I can get in this matter. Thank you very much! Best wishes, Ico

hi miller, i really appreciate you taking the time to lend me a hand. Hi List, Ok nearly there making pidip on an fc3 ccrma machine. I uncompressed the pd source and the ffmpeg source and the configure when well. I did make clean.
