Sorry for the cross post. I can't wait to see when Pure Data gets on this thing.

Know anything about the hardware? If it really is running OSX as
they claim, porting it should trivial. My guess is that it uses
integer-only CPUs like ARMs. So then it could use Günter's PDa.

proably an ultralowvoltage intel single-core chip. even apple isnt insane enough to port OSuX to ARM..

Ive heard read reports (unconfirmed) that its intels XScale. Possibly
also has 16Mb dedicated graphics.
GEM too please :)
Jobs also had a video output cable during they keynote, which is
pretty badass, if thats an option down the road....

Doesnt say much, but points to XScale or one of intels other lower
power embedded CPUs.

Yeah, an XScale is an ARM. Sounds like Apple has built the Zaurus
but with a good interface. The Zaurus' hardware is nice, but the
interface is attrocious. It is free though. I think the most recent
Zaurii have VGA out and USB host, so you can plug in the keyboard,
mouse, monitor right into it.

If you can save webpages or open local webpages in safari then you can run little toy javascript applications.

Well, no official support for it. Jobs actually stated that to allow
applications on the iPhone apple have will screen them. Google and
Yahoo are already writing applications for it (on record), with
apples go ahead. This means that apps can, and will be made available.
chances are they will be somehow digitally signed. Note the extra
spaces for icons on the home screen - thats a pretty big hint.
but whatever, if verified 3rd party applications are possible,
homebrew is possible, just look at the PSP/DS scene. Im hopefull -
but christ its expensive (and 6 months away..)

yeah, expensive locked down boutique device, Apple gets worse all the time, there have been different times when they were much more open. But, at least when they drop now the 'Computers' in the name, now we know that they focuse on content and vertical integration. Guess GP2X or Nokia N800 for PDA needs are the more desirable gadgets. IPhone maybe is hackable but I dont like to be treated as a criminal, for that pricetag I want an invitation to program it (read SDK). I wonder if they hired Jeff Han for doing the multitouchscreen although it is obviously not cameradriven...
Cheers,

for the touch technology they acquired this company: http://www.fingerworks.com/
i wonder if apple 200 patents are going to hinder touch-interface progress for the entire industry? does anyone have a complete list? Jeff Han is certainly prior art, as far as i'm concerned
