In the patch: [receive bajesus] | [particular]
In the command line: pd -open <patch> -send ";bajesus sugar-smacks" The semicolon makes all the difference. I also found that it works to say -send ";bajesus $VAR" inside a bash script, if you're into that kind of thing. I have no idea where the message goes if you don't use a semicolon.
