Hello everyone!
Has anyone tried to use pd on a pi zero and if so, which audio interface did you use?
J
Hi Jaime, i have successfully used the PhatDAC and other I2S based dacs. Output-only though! Will report later on trying the audioinjector octo card which is input/output. best, Thomas

I would think Pd should work on a zero, though I haven't tried it myself.
Miller has some sound card recommendations on the Pd documentation http://msp.ucsd.edu/Pd_documentation/x3.htm#s1.0 in the section "Audio hardware in Linux".
I have had good luck with the Griffin Technology iMic with the non-zero Raspberry Pi models - amazon.com/gp/product/B003Y5D776, and I think it's based on one of the chipsets that Miller found worked well.

I can also recommend this very cheap thing here (around 8€):
http://www.manhattan-products.com/hi-speed-usb-3-d-sound-adapter https://www.neuhold-elektronik.at/catshop/product_info.php?products_id=4925
(I think both are more or less the same).
the latency is quite bad but basically the same as the Behringer UCA202. I used it several interactive installations with the Raspberry Pi 3 where I didn't need ultra low latencies and it worked well.

There is a GPIO pi zero soundcard to be released soon by an Australian company called Audio Injector:
http://www.audioinjector.net/rpi-shop
I have used their stereo card on my PI2 & 3 with great results. . . very low latency (below 4ms!).
Also they have a 16 channel card (8in/8out) which is very tempting.

Hi, the audioinjector octo card is actually 6 in / 8 out. It works nicely with new kernels (4.9+). It should work with the rpi 0 since the GPIO pinout is identical to rpi 2/3. Its width is like rpi 2/3, but it can still sit on the smaller rpi 0 board. best, Thomas

"below 4ms round-trip latency?"
I have not tested round trip. I've been using the (very clean) ADC to record into a buffer. That buffer is played back and modulated in real-time by a variety of sensors. Output has been less than 4ms latency (straight output through ALSA). I think with more tuning of the Pi, kernel, & Pd I could perhaps go lower, but it's not necessary for my current project.
"the audioinjector octo card is actually 6 in / 8 out"

below 4ms round-trip latency?

There is a GPIO pi zero soundcard to be released soon by an Australian company called Audio Injector:

I have used their stereo card on my PI2 & 3 with great results. . . very low latency (below 4ms!).
Also they have a 16 channel card (8in/8out) which is very tempting.

I can also recommend this very cheap thing here (around 8€):

(I think both are more or less the same).
the latency is quite bad but basically the same as the Behringer UCA202. I used it several interactive installations with the Raspberry Pi 3 where I didn't need ultra low latencies and it worked well.

I got smooth audio stereo output (didn't test input) with a Behringer U-Control UCA202 and a pi-zero. I just tried a simple sine wave, I didn't push it to see what happens under load...but now I'm curious to revisit it and see...

Miller has some sound card recommendations on the Pd documentation http://msp.ucsd.edu/Pd_documentation/x3.htm#s1 .0[http://msp.ucsd.edu/Pd_documentation/x3.htm#s1.0] in the section "Audio hardware in Linux".
I have had good luck with the Griffin Technology iMic with the non-zero Raspberry Pi models - amazon.com/gp/product/B003Y5 D776[http://amazon.com/gp/product/B003Y5D776] http://amazon.com/gp/product/B003Y5D776%5Bhttp://amazon.com/gp/product/B003Y5D776%5D, and I think it's based on one of the chipsets that Miller found worked well.

Hello everyone!
Has anyone tried to use pd on a pi zero and if so, which audio
interface did you use?
