hey,
in os x ver. 10.3.9 im having great difficulties adding the xsample library to this particular version. in the .app info i can see the binary that i dowloaded is added as a plug in. but when i add xsample into the start up list pd prints out the message xsample: cant load library on the next start up. there must be something im missing..
i already talked to thomas grill who helped me a great deal.
thanks

In Pd-0.38.4-extended, on both the Windows and the Mac OS X, the
xsample binaries are from Thomas' website. Its worked fine for me so
far so I don't know what to tell you. I haven't used it, so I don't
know much about it.

Hi Alexandre,
thats bad news really. this list was the last hope i had. what version of osx are you working on ? are you sure there is nothing im missing ? what else could keep pd from loading up a library ? i dont want to give up on this library.
since Hans-Christoph says xsample is included into PD-extended, it should also be loaded at startup. Do you get the xsample banner in the console (could you post your console output here?). What exactly is not working for you? Are you able to create an [xgroove~] object?
greetings, Thomas
hey thomas,
im not sure what the console is, but i will refer to it as the window that prints all the messages.
basically after i made sure the binary file was in the extra folder in the resources folder of PD's content (and like Hans-Christoph says it already is included) and starting Pd the console outputs "xsample: can't load library" i cannot create a [xgroove~]object ..when i try the console reads xgroove~ ...couldn't create
i tried putting the whole xsamples folder in the resources folder, the pd-darwin folder but no success... i dont understand this at all

ok, that's bad, there's something wrong. Two things to try:
patcher window first to see this), add -verbose to the startup flags (line at the bottom) and restart pd - please tell me what the console now says about xsample loading
and replace the xsample.pd_darwin in the PD-extended build with the new version.
best greetings, Thomas
hey thomas,
i did get one new xsamples.pd_darwin and i added the -verbose to the start up flags. now the console reads:
input channels = 2 output channels = 2 input channels = 2 ouput channels = 2 tried /xsample/xsample.pd_darwin and failed tried /xsample.pd_darwin and failed xsample: cant load library
a step closer ?

I think you have a leading slash, i.e. "/xsample". It should just read

hey,

I think you can just trash the file you have in your user preferences folder. Next time pd will launch it will recreate it.

yes.. perfekt hc. es hat endlich funktioniert und ich kann die xsamples library benutzen : )
thanks a lot for providing me with a functioning installer with all the libraries that i needed. basically what i did was that i deleted my old version of pd that i was using and replaced it with the one on your website.. there i also found the org.puredata.pd.list, which i dropped in ~/library/preferences.... and it worked flawlessly... thanks again hc.
best

When you open the disk image, org.puredata.pd.plist is right next to Pd-0.38.4-extended-RC7.html

cheers hc., one problem: where do i find the org.puredata.pd.plist file ? i downloaded the xsample folder for mac osx from thomas' website. the folder contains the binary, two demos and help patches. is there another meaning hidden with when you say "comes with the Pd binary" ? how do i obtain it ?

Try copying the org.puredata.pd.plist file that comes with the Pd binary.Copy it to ~/Library/Preferences.That will replace your current Pd preferences with the default ones.

hey,
thanks hc. it makes sense what you say: it must be a slash related problem, since every library im trying to load with pd, it cannot access the binaries with the .pd_darwin ending.. and it prints e.g. "tried /zexy.pd_darwin and failed" or "tried /rradical/radical.pd_darwin and failed." .. what is a leading slash and what can i do about it ?

I think you have a leading slash, i.e. "/xsample".It should just read "xsample".

hey,

hey,
in os x ver. 10.3.9 im having great difficulties adding the xsample library to this particular version. in the .app info i can see the binary that i dowloaded is added as a plug in. but when i add xsample into the start up list pd prints out the message xsample: cant load library on the next start up. there must be something im missing..
i already talked to thomas grill who helped me a great deal.
thanks

I'm not sure, but I remember that updating to 10.3.9 updated libstdc++.
It would be a good practice for people who make binaries for os X to specify the library requirements just like gnu/Linux folks do.
