Are there any recommendations on netbook/audio interface combinations for further development and performance using pd?
I am at the moment OS agnostic.

i love my eee901go running plain debian/squeeze|sid (no wimpy netbook remix or the like) it's the first time that i can go somewhere and take my performance instrument with me during the day, rather than leave it at the hotel... (<1kg)
i think your happiness very much depends on the type of processing you (want to) do; e.g. i had a really slow SSD disk inside, which made ordinary netbook things (like browsing) extraordinarily painful; i had no problems with performing, since i don't use soundfiles or the like (so there was little to no disk I/O); eventually i got a faster (and bigger) SSD. CPU power is enough for the simple things i do, but again, this might be different for you.

Hi, I use a Barbie netbook (acer aspire one, 1g) and a mobile pre m audio interface, m audio 2x2 midi sport (the classic), all works fine...in the past i worked with nano pad or pad kontrol... fine.
My OS is ubunt 9.04, and work... but i prefer a low latency kernel...
In my MAC OSX Leopard all works fine, but some objects dont work....
Best regards

I use a lenovo e10, mainly because it has a pc express card slot and I can use it with my RME Multiface with 18 channel balanced i/o. It runs Ubuntu 9.10 and everything works very well.
Be aware that the newer models (at least here in Germany) don't seem to have the express card slot anymore. The Netbook is reported to even run OSX so you have all the options.

i would recommend not to use a netbook, or any other atom-based system, because the performance with pd is rather poor. my aspire one with 1.6ghz does not come close to my old pentium m with 1.4 ghz. it feels more like a machine with about 900 mhz cpu. (i think this is caused by pd not making use of hyperthreading) latency of internalk sound is about 20 ms with oss on ubuntu karmic. (and a little lower, when i refrain from moving/opening other windows and no system update etc. is running in the background)

A good alternative are subnotebooks with Intel's ULV processors inside. I recently got myself an Acer Timeline 13" with the SU3500 CPU. It's actually pretty fast, still light (~1.7kg), battery life is up to 8 hours and for Pd I only need one CPU core anyway. :) Similar laptops are available from other manufacturers as well.
Acers Timeline 1810 or other ULV devices with smaller 11" displays may even give you the netbook feel. My eyes aren't good enough anymore to use 9" or 10" screens for longer periods of time.

love my VAIO W11 because of the high screen resolution (1366x768 on a 10.1 inch screen), good videocard (intel gm945, works very well in linux because opensource drivers) and it weights only 1.2kg

Actually I would wait for a while. It seems that some netbooks and pads are about to be released with (multi)touchscreens, giving a whole lot of new possibilities. The start is the Asus EEE T101MT
Cheers,

Hi Jerome,
i'm on a not-so-new ASUS Eee 1000 HD, and happy, although this is not my main machine. (A Netbook is not to be a main machine imho)
OS is EeeBuntu (i'm afraid i will be discontinued) with Array.org kernel which runs really FAST on this slow box.
I've recently bought an inexpensive Burr-Brown USB-SPdif interface (output only) for the netbook which runs out-of-the-box with linux and sounds very nice. And it's very small. (NB newer netbooks have SPdif out built in.)
