Hello,
I don't know "how" exactly it will work, but I am shure that it works and that's the spirit. "My" project for PDCon2009 was not made to be "mine" so I am introducing the process here to the community. Since the beginning my idea was to make some kind of "hackerspace", "openspace" or "bricolab" , whatever the name, inside the Convention. A place for artisans work and share tools and concepts as in your own neighbourhood with your long time mates...
AFAIK the producers of the event here could get some space for we make some kind of "deconference" to find some convergence in spontaneous ideas and similar interests discovered with factual presence, at the Monday 20t july, all day.
Maybe if enough people show interest in this situation around here we could schedule more time and space for that for the rest of the week... All the schedule and space that the event would give to me I will donate to this project... I will have no authoral, performatic or scientific project for this conference besides to stimulate local community meeting global community... So I hope it can helps the situation and an organic flow of collaborations...
I have some ideas about how it could happen, but would i would like to hear from you first...
thanx
best regards,
glerm
I didn't send any authoral work also and have time to enjoy this freestyle meeting, except july 22 and 23. see you all there. jjR

I am a huge supporter of this idea, I really like this kind of
meeting. I've helped run a few in NYC, and participated in others.
We can find a way to make it fit the Pd group.
What I think works well is just setting up a bunch of 1 hour time
slots and some rooms. Then the morning starts with people talking to
each other, hanging out and eating breakfast. Then there is 1 hour to
discuss and plan the schedule, which the whole group does together.
People suggest sessions, people offer to lead sessions, and everyone
discusses how to fit them into the schedule.
I am happy to help run the process or just participate.

hey glerm.
you know you have all my support to do this, but, to organize it inside the PDCon09, we need to get some special place to do it, and of course, some dates.
could we chat later? i need to find good roofs for everybody interested in the hacklab in the sao paulo winter ;)

Well, the date is very convenient, it is supposed to be the 1st day of the convention! the 20th. On the 19th we have a light and warming welcome... and on the 20th, the barcamp is the Only scheduled event!
I hope the Pd comunity discusses some issues for round tables from now on! And come up with some bigger topics soon!
Now, as for keep doing this thing along the convention, I guess we can use the Space at PUC, as we dont have room at all in the Museum of Image and Sound, which will hold paper sessions and workshops from tuesday to sunday.
I mean that we dont really have a room, I dont know what you guys need, although there is this small auditory that could be used for that.
I am just going nuts here trying to organize the entire convention schedule today and tomorrow, we cant really change after that.
you people can skype me at: atporres

From my experience, simple classrooms (i.e. not lecture halls), or

auditorium might not work very well because it is important for people
to mingle and mix and talk to each other.

puredata svn as possible during the day and try to browse as much objects as possible, and mainly try to identify developers that are around the place to take deep studies on specific cases.
and try to solve the question during the convention...

I agree. Is important that the place doesn't have a stage or fixed
chairs.I have some ideas that some of you could join:
- I can help people to build a low cost microcontroller, based in
arduino-firmata firmware but the cheaper way possible and use it as
a general example of physical-pd interaction. Here I already
explained the technique in portuguese: http://artesanato.devolts.org/?page_id=2
- I would like to help people to make an "install-fest" of puredata
this day... I also would like to install linux for those who want to
join the crew... I can also help to compile objects which aren't in
pd-extended package.
- I would like to make a "pd-svn tour" - I mean - open all the
folders in puredata svn as possible during the day and try to browse
as much objects as possible, and mainly try to identify developers
that are around the place to take deep studies on specific cases.
- To make a F.A.Q. of puredata doubts and question by the present
people, and try to solve the question during the convention...
what else?
simple as that -> The hackmeeting has already started ... :) see you soon...
I think your ideas definitely sound good. One question I have is how
to handle the languages. Should it be only English, or should there
be some Portuguese sessions too?
Perhaps we should set up a wiki page to start organizing it? Things
like ideas for sessions, time slots, etc. It doesn't need to be
complicated.

I am tottaly shure it's very important to take care of people that don't speak english, and even from those who speak I am shure they will not understand complex concepts in english better than in their native language thoughts.
Brasil is not like european countries where english is almost a second language, from my experience I'm shure that lot of newbies will need support on that.
I can help as an interpreter also, but I think we need more volunteers on that.
Also I encourage Spanish fluent speakers to try speaking "portuñol". ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portunol )
I'm setting a wiki/blog here, I will send the instructions in the next mail (BTW - the http://puredata.info seems not to let users edit wikipages by default. Is that true? My user could not and receives a message of "Insuficient Privileges", I could had mailed pdmeister@iem.at but I think if would be complicated if any new user would have to that - this is the reason i'm stting other wiki.
