Hello,
If a [clear( message is sent to the 1st inlet of vcf~ the main window prints a /no method for 'clear'/ message, both in Pd 0.54.0 and Pd 0.54.1 (on Linux). The clear message is mentioned in the reference subpatch of the vcf~-help patch (also on the iem website with an overview of all Pd objects and help files).
best, Hans
hmm, maybe it never had a clear message and it's a doc error? If so, other filters have it so this one should have it too?
do you have an older version where this message existed?
cheers

yeah, I can confirm vcf~ never had 'clear', but I think it should as it's the odd one out... anyway, fixed the help file and opened a request to add a clear message to vcf~
cheers

It is a good idea of course, to have a message [clear( that empties the audio buffer of the vcf filter but I haven't used or seen it in any previous version of Pd.
The iem site https://pd.iem.sh/objects/vcf~/ mentions this clear message and also 'Last updated for Pd-0.46' .
best

For example: vcf~in a subpatch with audio switched off (during inactive polyphonic voices) for patch optimalisation. When the audio is switched on again, the audio buffer of the filter can be cleared, to have a "clean, new start"...

What's the point of having a message rate "clear" to a filter?
Just curious.
filters are made of delay lines, in these cases 1 and 2 samples feedback and feedforward lines. Clearing the filter just clears the delay lines and sets the previous samples to zero...
sometimes filters can "explode", and a clear message can save you
