getting an external to work!!!!

Hi all, The web site, http://crca.ucsd.edu/~msp, is down... it looks like you can get Pd from: http://www.pure-data.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&r… while I try to get an alternate site up... (thanks jfm3) cheers Miller

flext linking

hi - i am just trying to build my first flext-based external. it compiles well and it links without any problem, yet: when i start pd, it reports: load_object: Symbol "transverb_tilde_setup" not found yet i do find a Transverb_tilde_setup in the files after preprocessing. how is the case shifted by preprocessors in c++? usually it should work, as far as i can read out of other externals based on flext. i do init it with: FLEXT_NEW_TILDE_G("transverb~", transverb) (and transverb is the class and the file and everything that should (not) matter). thanks in advance martin martin pi attacksyour.net/pi johann strauss gasse 32 | 7 1040 vienna ++43 699 10 44 37 42 sil.at

I haven't been following this thread so I don't know if it would help but I have a Lorenz attractor object which works fine if you want the code? pd with SMP?

Hello, I'm helping develop an installation using pd (linux). We are quite poor, but still manage to have the choice between using a single celeron 533 MHz processor, or a SMP system with two celerons running at 523 MHz. There are four cheap sound cards in this system to give us eight outputs. I think these must all take their input from one pd, as we need to smoothly move between them. The question is this: Is there a good way to take advantage of both processors in the SMP configuration (and would this provide a significant performance gain over a single processor)? Is Open Sound Control (OSC) the only way to do this (run a pd on each processor, with a mixing stage in one of them, and OSC providing the pipe)? Does anyone know if the overhead associated with OSC would make this a bad idea? Anything better? Any simple solutions? I hope some of that made sense. Thanks! -j

Graph on parent layouts

Hi, I recently build some graph-on-parent (abbr. as "GOP" from now on) stuff (in "agriff") and stumbled across some difficulties. A common problem with GOP for me has been the layout, in which the GUIs appear on the parent. I adjusted it this way, that I found out by trial and error: I put a freshly done GOP patch into another patch, which looks nasty, because all GUIs are crammed together and unsuable. Then in the parent, I adjust the graph size via the properties of the GOP patch. After that I open the GOP patch and save it again. From now on, I can always create this GOP again and it looks just like intended. Now, this seems a bit tedious to me so I'd like to ask, if someone nows a better and shorter way of getting the size and layout of a GOP patch right. Also GOPs in subpatches like [pd hidden], not in real abstractions, seem to change their layout sometimes. I can't verify yet, when exactly this happens, but it happened to me. Oh, and I found out something else: Don't put a vu meter into a GOP, because it eats your CPU. Stick with 'silent' objects. Best regards, -- Frank Barknecht _ ______footils.org__
