Hallo!
Some days ago I installed pd-0.38 after using 0.37 for a long time and I'm not able to connect to jack server anymore. (configured with --enable-jack, on debian) Okay - so I reinstalled pd-0.37 (because I need it on thursday) but also with the reinstalled 0.37 I cannot connect to jack.
Any thoughts what I can try to fix this problem ?
Thanks, LG Georg

Hallo!
just a guess ... are you running jack and pd as the same user?
I set the sticky bit (I don't if this is the correct name...) with jack and I had to run PD as root. okay - I'll try to run also jack as root...

Hallo!
unfortunately this was not the problem ... :( Also if I start jack and pd as root I cannot connect to jack server.

Hallo again!
I found now this posting in the mailinglist:
Looks like you have two versions of jack installed. Make sure that your jack installation is clean, then the packages from PlanetCCRMA should work fine. Especially take a look at /usr/local/lib/libjack*, /usr/local/bin/jackd, etc .... If these files exist, then you have most probably two versions of jack installed (then one from PlanetCCRMA and one that you compiled yourself?).
In this case, remove any trace from the version you have compiled yourself.
Guenter
I installed jack via apt-get and these files are on the following location:
/usr/lib/: ls *jack* libjack-0.80.0.so.0.23 libjackasyn.so.0.11 libjack.la (and some links)
/usr/bin/: ls *jack* jack_bufsize jack.clock ... jackd ...
So does this mean, that I have installed two different versions? If yes, which files should I remove?
Thanks, LG Georg

Hi,
It seems that your installation is ok, except that you do not mention the files from the libjack-dev package, which you need to compile pd with jack. It is hard to tell what goes wrong with your system without more information.
Is there an error message or the like ? How do other jack applications work ?
Cheers, Guenter
Thanks, LG Georg

Hallo!
Thanks for your answer.

I have now uninstalled the dev package, because I thought maybe this was the problem ...
It is hard to tell what goes wrong with your system without more information.
The problem is the computer is fixed with no network... :(
Now I copied some more infos:

How do other jack applications work ?
as mentioned supercollider works, but not the input. (but I'm not sure if this is a problem with jack ...)
Thanks for any help, LG Georg

This is a problem with your soundcard. Make sure your soundcard has 4 channel in and out (and that ALSA supports it). It seems that it hasn't. (ALSA: cannot set channel count to 4 for capture)

You have to tell PD to use jack like this: pd -jack Or set it in the media menu. If the flag doesn't exist or the Media Menu doesn't have a Jack entry then pd is not compiled for JACK --> you have to recompile or install the Debian package, which works out of the box.
