Apologies for x-posting. (resending because apparently the original was rejected because I was "not subscribed?"...)
It is my great pleasure to announce immediate availability of the latest Pd-L2Ork, its K12 module, as well as the latest version of Pd-L2Ork for the Raspberry Pi platform that includes comprehensive set of objects for sensing, including GPIO with pulse-width-modulation support, and analog sensor monitoring support (via MCP3008 A/D chip and SPI module). In addition to a slew of bug-fixes and improvements, pd-l2ork's structures have seen a significant overhaul (thanks to contributions from Jonathan Wilkes and others) now supporting a majority of the SVG spec and allowing for some powerful manipulations of structs inside pd patches. Please note that the structs are still under development, so some instabilities remain. Other notable Changelog Highlights for this release include:
*new drawimage and drawsprite structs
*improved classinfo, canvasinfo, and pdinfo objects
*xapian-based browser
*proper queuing for all iemgui objects and other improvements
*New preferences dialog
*New customizable arrays and jump-on-click ability
*UI themes
*Improved sanity checks for graph-on-parent patches
*over a hundred of other bug fixes and improvements
For a complete list of changes please consult the attached git-extracted changelog.
The new release is accompanied by a comprehensive documentation on how to connect RPi to the computer as well as run and configure Pd-L2Ork (and its K12 module) for operation on RPi. In addition, as part of this release, the regular Pd-L2Ork install instructions have been also streamlined to make them easier to navigate.
For those in Virginia Tech area, the new release candidate will be showcased at the upcoming Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology community meeting this Friday 830-930am in ICAT Sandbox.

ABOUT L2Ork
A contemporary intermedia ensemble, L2Ork, thrives upon the quintessential form of collaboration found in the western classical orchestra and its cross-pollination with increasingly accessible human-computer interaction technologies for the purpose of exploring expressive power of gesture, communal interaction, discipline-agnostic environment, and the multidimensionality of arts. In addition to furthering the artistic exploration of the newfound genre, the ensemble's particular focus is on integration of Taiji (Tai Chi) choreography into its performance practice as well as its philosophy.
Founded by Dr. Ivica Ico Bukvic in May 2009, and since 2014 co-directed with Dr. Charles Nichols, L2Ork is a part of the interdisciplinary initiative by the Virginia Tech Digital Interactive Sound & Intermedia Studio (DISIS) and the signature initiative of the newfound Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT). As the world's first Linux-based laptop orchestra L2Ork offers optimal infrastructure for creative research at minimal cost. By providing a seamless integration of arts and sciences it is in part designed to bridge the gap between STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and the Arts, with particular focus on K-12 (Kindergarten to 12th grade) education.
ABOUT Pd-L2Ork
Pd-L2Ork is a Linux-centric fork of the legendary Pure-Data. With over three years of development and 700 new features, bug-fixes, and improvements, its focus is primarily on the laptop orchestra environment, and more specifically L2Ork setup. In 2012 Pd-L2Ork introduced unique K-12 educational module, offering GUI-centric granular approach to learning Pd/Max-like programming environments using a collection of abstractions geared towards K-12 students. Most recently, Pd-L2Ork is also supporting Raspberry Pi platform, paving way towards sub-$100 laptop orchestra instruments.

i seem to remember that i have asked you this question multiple times in private, but never received an answer: is there *any* reason to make your announcements via pd-list instead of pd-announce [1]? all emails to pd-announce are forwarded to pd-list, but some people are only subscribed to pd-announce (as they are not interested in day-to-day discussion).
btw, anybody can post to pd-announce (all emails get manual moderation and are allowed if they are a proper announcement "related to Pd somehow").
(resending because apparently the original was rejected because I was "not subscribed?"...)
no. it was rejected because the mailinglist has a built-in cross-posting reject rule. see [2].
hope this clarifies the problem.

...IOhannes, indeed we've had discussions in the past to the point where I believe no matter what I do will be adequate in your eyes. Your replies to anything I post to this list teem with negativity, and a good portion of the time are off-topic (which makes me wonder how does that fit into the mailing list netiquette?). Yet, knowing you from our in-person conversations, I know you are a lot nicer than what your posts to this list make you look like.

And yet, I had those rejected as well, although I am not sure if pd-l2ork announcement is considered related to Pd... It is conceivably possible that this was a case of having bunch of mailing lists in the TO: header in the same email which is also known to land them in the admin pile (depending on the mailing list configuration), but given that all pd-announce emails are (AFAICT) moderated, what escapes me is why would one reject this merely on the principle and then in turn double the work both for the poster and themselves?
(resending because apparently the original was rejected because I was "not subscribed?"...)
no. it was rejected because the mailinglist has a built-in cross-posting reject rule. see [2].
First of all, if this is the case, then your mailing list is not configured properly as it is giving a report that is false/misleading. Second, I think if this is an automatic bounce, it should happen instantaneously (which was not the case). If it is left for review of list admins (and hence the delay in response), then the trouble you went to reject the post could've been simply redirected by seeing from who the email came and what its purpose is, rather than creating even more work for everyone involved. Sure, that introduces exceptions, but in the end I feel it is a nice way of showing appreciation for those who went through the trouble of contributing to the community as I am sure you'll agree writing an announcement and providing free online resources requires a lot more time than reading a subject and ticking the "approve" checkbox...
I also think this is extraneous (assuming the reject is automated). Like yourself, I manage over dozen mailing lists among many other things that keep me busy and even I choose to keep those kinds of posts for review because I am aware people when they announce things don't want to send dozen same emails but simply one. At the same time, I also don't want to create extra work for you or anyone else, so to cut my monologue short, if you and/or the community so desire, I will stop posting any further announcements on any pd list, so as not to annoy you (and possibly others). After all, you manage the list, and life is too short to spend time arguing over things like these...
Please understand I won't reply to any further discussions on this matter...
Best wishes,
Ico

I don't feel disturbed at all and I'm interested to get notifications like this in the future. Pd-l2ork announcements certainly belong here (why wouldn't they? Pd vanilla and Pd-extended is also discussed here).
Though while not being him, I'm pretty sure IOhannes feels the same way. What you feel to be negativity is probably really only about technical aspects. Anyway, your post shows difficulties people might have by using the pd-announce mailing list and it's certainly a good thing to bring those problems up. Once there is clarity and agreement on the rules, it shouldn't be too difficult to successfully send announcements.

'yaourt -S pd-l2ork' and pd life gets cool, thank you for this, I'm looking out for an eventual 0.45 version, that's a good reason to get pd-l2ork news on this list, I don't think it's off-topic at all, even if my thoughts don't really matter :)

I have created on windows the same script in batch but How can I launch thoses scripts ?
thx

Hello Philippe,
[motex/system] in Pd extended can execute DOS commands, but you have to deal with the DOS path :
You can modify it in System/Advanced properties -> Environment Variables -> System variables -> Path Or you can simply put your scripts in the same folder than the patch you 'double-click' to launch Pd.
After that, "start" dos command is useful to launch executables and scripts in a separate, non-blocking shell.

Hi,
I wanted to try Pd-L2Ork, but i think it's not possible to install it

Ok finally I just uninstall pd-extended, i have to fix some -paths /
[ii?] but my hands & eyes are thanking me already. Screenshot

When using [ii] in a patch, even with [import iemlib] - i have to use
[init] once for [ii] to be found (need to save and reload the patch).
Thanks for the report. It is possible that pd-l2ork is using an older version of iemlib as I've not synced that source in a while. Other option is that there is something potentially funny with the way externals are loaded. Let me investigate...
Just to make sure, is ii an abstraction or an external and is it a synonym for init?

init_class = class_new(gensym("init"), (t_newmethod)init_new, (t_method)init_free, sizeof(t_init), 0, A_GIMME, 0);
class_addcreator((t_newmethod)init_new, gensym("ii"), A_GIMME, 0);
Will continue to test Pd-L2Ork (I had some difference with pd-extended
regarding -path (not all my abstractions were found)). Will report back.
BTW, I never used the PPA thing on LaunchPad, but it would be nice for
installing / updating Pd-L2Ork.

I wouldn't use [init]. The same functionality is available using [loadbang] connected to a storage object ([float], [list], message box, etc.). And [loadbang] is available in all versions of Pd, so your patch will be more portable.
The [init] object's args make patching _slightly_ easier. The inlet makes it more expressive, but a subtle feature of [loadbang] is that it's easier to spot because it's always at the top of a chain. Also "init" as class name is problematic-- [float 6] "inits" to 6, after all, but does not output a message upon initialising. I suppose the idea is to be consistent with iemgui "init", which itself is obscure and requires the user to bring up a dialog window to understand how the patch works. (Not to mention it clashes with [initbang], where "init" has a different meaning altogether.)
The only other potential advantage is that if you have [init] fanning out to several objects, you can test your patch by simply by connecting [bng] to the inlet of [init]. With [loadbang] you would have to create a [bng] and then connect it to every object that [loadbang] connects to. But at least in Pd-l2ork you can either:
a) click [loadbang] with the mouse to output a bang. (This is how Max/MSP solves this problem, too.) b) select all the objects to which you'd like to connect, then draw a connection from [bng] to one of them. In Pd-l2ork this will make a connection from the outlet to all of the selected objects.

this is still a lot more work that a), but a lot less than b) if you don't have Pd-l2ork's patching features though it might be more readable.

Yeah, I forgot about that one. It's a nice trick of "recycling" a wire which generalizes to other situations, too.
