heya,
...just a note that a new alpha of tcl/tk for OSX is available at:
http://homepage.mac.com/tigital
...pd needs to be recompiled to use this: just change the references to "8.4" in the makefile to "8.5", then place the tcl.framework and tk.framework in your "/Library/Frameworks", and finally place the new Wish Shell.app into "/Applications/Utilities"...
...this release fixes the toggle button problem, which actually affected alot of interface stuff, as well as correcting a redraw bug...to my mind, this effectively replaces the 8.4.x releases, and is much faster at canvas/text drawing...
...as always, bug reports welcome!

Hello,
a question about patcher structure. I know that one should use different names when using sends and receives because one could make a horrible loop. But is this true for such objects like arrays and delay lines too? In other words: Suppose I have two subpatches which both contain a delayline named 'delay1' would this get me in trouble eventhough I renamed one of the subpatches? I always make sure every name is different but I wanted to make sure this is really necessary or just a lot of work... ;)

hi,
if you start building big patches you will find it useful to name every send/receive/array/delay/throw, ... with $0-names. $0 is expanded patch-wide with a unique number.
this looks a bit ugly, but is still less work than controlling all names of all of your patches.

And you'll never control someone else who maybe wants to use your patches in his/hers, too!

So if I understand you well (I guess not) I have to use names like
[pd patch_one_of_six]
which contains
[delwrite~ delay1$0] [delwrite~ delay2$0]
and so on
and in subpatch two_of_six I'll have to use
[delwrite~ delay1$1] [delwrite~ delay2$1]
¿OR can I just name every object $0 and that's it? Looks a bit silly and unlogical to me so that will probably not be the case...?

hi,
no, $0 has to be at the beginning of a name to work correctly. so it should be delwrite~ $0-xyz. $0 is substituted with a unique integer value. (i think starting with 1000, but thats unimportant). the thing is that a delayline cannot be named with a number but only with a symbol... so delwrite~ $0 would be extracted to delwrite~ 1099 and causes an error. if you have delwrite $0x, which is converted to 1099x that is a symbol and can be used (for sends, delays, ...)

You need to put all $-symbols at the start, and $1 is something totally different from $0. No harm intended, but: You should read the HTML documentation, please. You won't come very far without reading it at least once.

Well, you don't need to make a subpatch with [pd ...] to use $0, you can use it anywhere, and it will be local inside that file i.e. that abstraction, but it will still reach any subpatches inside that file.
Better read that docs...

Jamie, this is incredible. You've made Tcl/Tk a whole lot more responsive. It feels like I'm fighting the interface a lot less now. Continually updating arrays simply update without interrupting audio!
I notice a couple glitches in a few minutes of use: Option-key accelerators don't respond. That might be on the Pd side now, though. I had a drawing glitch when creating a horizontal slider. Can't recreate. Most seriously, helper windows (like the Text Editor) don't respond to Cmd-W to close. I'd've thought that should be handled by Tk, but I could be wrong.
Best version of Tcl/Tk I've used so far...
