sorry for posting this again
but after much investigations, I can't find mp3cast~.dll with icecast2 support I'm on winXP and really _need_ this one I got sources that seem to understand icecast2 messages, but can't compile them I got a dll, but it seems to be an earlier version than the sources included everything comes from yves degoyon's site
please please does someone have an mp3cast~ for windows which understand "icecast2" message or any other object able to send mp3 streams to an icecast2 server? or can someone try to compile yves's sources for me ?
thanks ++++++ clemos
ola,
puès, i don't feel like supporting windows XP ... sorry, no ... even if i had the time.
why don't you use shoutcast~ from Olaf Matthes :: http://www.akustische-kunst.org/
suerte, sevy

No problem. Good bye.

ok, I understand :) it's a pity, but since I can't move all the other stuff to Linux, I won't use pd at all,
it'll be all right, it's not such a problem to me, I'll just take some random crap proggy to do the stuff... although I guess it's not the kind of thing you want to "support" either,
but anyway, since I'm already half evil, let me go further to the dark side.
thanks anyway for being clear :)

hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side instead!!
in case you want to come back to PD, in r23.cc (not online today, i'm afraid.. drupal-spamming stuff) we are using a lot of mp3cast~ mp3write~ oggcast~ and oggwrite~... running in linux...we can lend you a hand

the thing is becoming <off topic> but : I do use linux more and more often, and actually really love it. yet I still use windows for two main reasons :
a thing I do well enough to earn money...)
with glitch and the corpo-entertainment clichés, and thus uses massively the M$ aesthetic. the goal is more or less to crash windows in a "nice" graphical way while a friend of mine produces audio noise... (-third reason: I do use MS systems since Basic 1.0 when I was 8, so that I'm quite "used" to them)
the project for which I wanted to use mp3cast~ uses Flash and Flash Communication Server (oooooh god!... but FCS is installed on a linux box...), I just have three days left to setup all the stuff, and don't have time (and am not expert enough) to setup a linux system for that, with all the problems I could meet, and all the time I should spend reading docs to solve them... moreover the artists for which I'm working don't know linux at all...
that's all I wanted to say for my "defense" :)

virtually all of Yves externals, including mp3____~ run on windowzXP. i remember using the mp3 ones all the time since foobar2000 had such shitty stream support.. he's going to have to try harder to obfuscate them if he wants them to not run. like maybe including random linux kernel headers, rot13'ing the code and spraying shmget()s everywhere etc...

Hallo, clemos hat gesagt: // clemos wrote:

Well, I think there is no real reason for "defense". A lot of people for various reasons use Windows, if they like it or not. That's not a real problem or maybe it is but it's not a problem to discuss on pd-list.
However several of the developers of externals only use Linux, either because they oppose to using Windows (like Yves, I suppose) or because they just don't want to use Windows, because they prefer Linux (like me), because they don't want to pay for an OS, because they run a Mac, because the don't want to pay for a Mac, either.
That's not a problem either, as every external (normally) is available as source code and as every Windows user can learn how to compile externals on their own machines. This takes a bit of time and learning, of course, but time and knowledge also is, what the developers invest *for free*. And of course it's also no problem, if someone like Olaf for example doesn't want to or can invest lots of his free time (anymore) into Pd development.
That's the way it is here, and it's the way, practically any "DIY" project work. If you cannot DIY, then you either need to find someone who does the DIY for you (normally that is someone on this list, sometimes that someone is Cycling 74) or if you cannot find one, learn how to DIY yourself.

Alright guys,
what the f..k is going on here? This may sound stupid, but I just came back from holiday, and it's really frsutating to find such a thread on the pd mailing list ... I think that maxlib is still a valuable asset for pd, and scaring olaf away like yves did is just bad style. purde data itself is possibly as free as anything can be, so if anyone is making a living out of patching or hacking weird stuff for or with it, that's perfectly fine with me. I have the choice to use this stuff or not, depending on my personal reasons to use it or not, whatever they may be. As of yet, I'm not using pdp (altough I would like to use it) because I didn't yet figure out how to get my midi controller to work with linux. There was at least one discussion on the gem-dev list I remember that had the same rude tone as this thread. pd is also the result of a collaborative work of not-so-many indivuduals, and scaring away any of them for merely ideological reasons (sorry yves) does more harm to the idea of free software than ten incarnations of Bill Gates himself ever could.
Hey, let's be nice together, okay?
