Hi there:
Just wondering if there is a cd player external that can play audio cd from the cd drive and output the audio in signal outlets?
Cheers

AFAIK no, you could use alsaplayer (-> http://www.alsaplayer.org/) , jack (-> http://jackit.sf.net/) and -> http://test.pilot.fm/pd/externs/apctl-0.0.4a.tar.gz to control alsaplayer from pd.

If I do it in this way, I have control over the cd drive but no signal outlets in pd form the audio tracks on the CD, right? Or can jack route audio signals from the CD into pd? I have not used jack before...

jack is about low latency interapplication routing of audio, so you'll get alsaplayers output into pd (via [adc~])

It's called "cdplayer" and is in ext13 and inside the build-system on CVS. AFAIK it only works on Linux, but that should be no problem for you.

afaik it doesn't output the sound to pd but to the sound hardware ...

Ah, yes, you're right: It only has an outlet for a bang, and no dsp method. So it's back to alsaplayer/jack.

yep and thus won't work at all on macs or other machines that don't have a direct cdrom->soundcard connection on the motherboard.
I'll see if I can get my head around adding cdda support to readanysf~ - probably not though ;)
