It is nice to see a number of people in Chicago. I don't really have any place to hold something like this, but would love to get more involved with others here in town. So far, my learning of PD has been quite in solitary confinment, and there are times when it would be nice to get someone else's perspective. The list is great, but sometimes having immediate feedback would be nice.

I don't think any individual could host something like this. I was thinking rather, since Chicago has this large artistic community, wether we could find some collective which could lend as a room once a month. That shouldn't be very difficult. I am new in town and couldn't dare to tell, but there's plenty of spaces, I'll try to ask and hope I can come up with something more specific soon.

Well, I don't know if this would be something I could swing, but there is a bar in my neighborhood (Rogers Park, just off the Morse Stop on the Red Line), but I know the manager who books the bands, and they don't have anything on Sunday afternoon's at around 4 when they open, they have a nice sound system... I will inquire about using this...

Yeah. The bar access would be sweet to have access to. A projector would be nice as well, but I also like using RCA to good ole sports-viewing tellies.

Well, I am not certain about any additional things like a projector, but they do have a wall on which to project. They have had other people do "multimedia" shows there. It ain't all that big of a place, but for what we may need, I would think it would be perfect. It really isn't all that far from Public Transport, so any smaller pieces of equipment could easily be carried.
Plus, one of the other things that would be nice, is if everyone could invite other friends to come along. The more people who may buy a beer or two, would make it much easier to actually have this as a regular thing. (Yeah, commercialism is a ....) It would also be nice to put together a flyer and post it around various colleges. I wouldn't mind putting some up at Northwestern and Loyola, they are pretty close to where I am at.
Anyway, if any of you have heard about The Morse Theater or not, but they are doing regular Sunday morning "classical" (for lack of a better word) concert, which gets broadcast live on WFMT at 11am. I think the tickets for the concert are $10, but they also have a chef that does breakfast (he is a friend of mine, and a great chef).
So, if we could make this sort of thing open to the public, and get "listeners", that might help to get a "free" space. I don't know what they might charge, but I have asked the manager, just waiting on the response.
Mike
PS, they also have a pool table, and I do like to play...

Once you guys have an announcement, let me know and I'll forward it
to a prof at Art Institute I know (Claudia Hart). I know she has
some students working with Pd. Art Institute might be able to
provide space, if the other options fall thru.

Hey, I cc'ed the list since I think many people can contribute to
this
topic. That's great! Personally, I haven't really used the wiki
page to
organize a meeting, but some have. I basically talk to lots of
people in
person, and email them. I get a group of people to commit to a date and
time
first, like maybe 5 people. Then announce it, sometimes
advertising using
their names. I was running regular Arduino Hacklabs, and made a
page for
that if you are interested: http://www.arduino.cc/playground/Main/NYCHacklab I have heard there are some Pders at Art Institute, I don't
know if
you have any connection to them. .hc On Nov 9, 2008, at 10:59 AM, Anthony Curry wrote:
Hello All,
I'm interested in meeting with other Pd'ers in the Chicago
area.
How can I / we use the community page to establish a cirle
in Chicago,
USA as has been done in Copenhagen and Graz? Happy Pd-ing.
