All you guys are probably using better distros than me. I'm giving up on Fedora as of now, but I saw success stories on some of the Linux Laptop sites, so
I decided to give it
a go. But, alas, my graphics chips is not the Radeon x700 promised on
the website, not
even the x600 I saw in some postings. It is an Intel i915
shared-memory chip with no
accelleration. Intel's driver did not work at all, so I was stuck
with VESA at 1024x768.
I've got a thinkpad with that graphics chip in it ... in order to get acceleration working you have to use the i915 module, which should be built into kernel 2.6.10+ ... and if I remember correctly I had to specify in xorg.conf how much memory I wanted to use.
It's not fancy, but it seems to do the trick for Gem.
Patrick
ps. this is with debian unstable/agnula ... I tested Ubuntu breezy on it and acceleration worked without me modifying anything.

There's also laptops with the Unichrome chip from VIA. I don't have a laptop, but acceleration works on my Shuttle barebone, so I assume it should also work on laptops. http://unichrome.sf.net/ -- Marc
hi, some time ago ive created a patch using pd 0.38 that creates guis dynamically in subpatches using GOP feature. I just tried it on pd 0.39 and it doesnt work , the gui elements are created in the subpatches but i cant see them in my main patch. It also appears a wierd rectangle in my main patch . Is this a bug? Is there any way to fix this??
many thanx

hi, some time ago ive created a patch using pd 0.38 that creates guis dynamically in subpatches using GOP feature. Is this a bug? Is there any way to fix this??
Miller changed the way that GoP works for 0.39. The good news is that it's better. The bad news is that it's not so reverse-compatible. The new way is to specify the size of the GoP patch in the properties menu you get when you right-click. No more fooling around with changing the window size and resaving and all that silly nonsense. The "wierd rectangle" should represent the GoP visibility area. You'll see it move and resize when you change the GoP properties. But you should see it in the subpatch you are making GoP, not the parent, so I'm a bit confused!
Sometimes old GoP patches seems to work out fine with the new system, sometimes they don't. I'd advise people to correct the ones that don't work with the new GoP properties menu if they want to continue using PD 0.39.
I don't know how the dynamically generated subpatches will handle this, however. Perhaps there is a new creation message which sets the GoP visibility area? I'd be curious how this works out too, but I imagine only Miller can answer that at the moment.
best, d

Derek said most about this issue. I had a look at your patch, and "fixed" it by just changing the size of the area, that is active for GOP, to be 300x300. This way, all your objects are visible. However the distances aren't right anymore, as there is no automatic scaling happening anymore in GOP. You could re-introduce the scaling using the properties dialog, but I would strongly recommend to rather fix the creation messages so that they put all objects in the weird rectangle directly. The math will be much easier.
Please note in attached patch, that I moved the [cnv] to a place where it is not visible on parent.

Well, the toplevel of the patch I sent doesn't have GOP enabled. If you want to use that patch as GOP, you need to enable GOP for this, too, and make the GOP area big enough to grab the whole subpatch.
