Double-clicking on a file opens it via the system. On mac, double clicking a text or html files open them with the default program, ie. TexEdit and Safari.

hi,
in the helpbrowser it is possible to open files, like introduction.txt or index.htm, "outside" Pd.
is it possible to use this functionality inside a patch; like with a message to pd? (without using an external lib).
the documentation for (my) patches is sometimes too extensive to use the Pd comment.

thanks Dan for your reaction.
i'm afraid i don't understand what you mean.
in a patch there's no way to double-click on a filename 'directly'. i assume that to open a file it's necessary to send some kind of message to pd.
like, to open a Pd patch one can send this [; pd open file path( .

I dug around a bit and the files are opened by the gui. I could look into adding a method to hook into this by sending a pd message, but it's not currently possible as far as I can tell.

i think it would be more useful to have a message receiver (e.g. "pd-gui") that gets directly forwarded to the pd-gui.
; pd-gui ::pd_menucommands::menu_openfile /path/to/patch.pd
(you could even open a Pd patch from within Pd, via the OS)
however, this obviously doesn't work *now*.
