Apparently there was some work being done on demudi for ppc and there was a rumor somewhere that it'd be ready by march 2004... But I've no idea if it is available
the only live linux for ppc I know of is knoppix but this message says it all... looks like nothing has changed since then... http://mailman.linuxtag.org/pipermail/debian-knoppix/2003-July/003428.html

Nothing like Demudi for PPC yet. Honestly, a Gentoo-based live CD with audiosofts for PPC is in the works, somewhere on the backburner of my brain. Just haven't had time to get into it ;-)
If you like challenges, I would say that Gentoo for PPC might be a way to go. There are some tricks to getting all the software emerged [and I'd be happy to give explicit pointers if that's the way you decide to go], but in general almost all the audio applications you would want are in the Gentoo Portage system.
Others might suggest Debian, which of course is fine as well. Just a bit different [and frustrating in its own ways as well ;-) ] I don't know how much audio software has been packaged for PPC in Debian, but I know one plan was to merge as much of Demudi as possible into Debian unstable eventually. Of course, those packages are for x86 architecture...
Besides all that, you could look at Mandrake or Yellow Dog, but both are kind of icky and corperate-feeling, and espc Yellow Dog has gotten as much complaints as praise AFAIK.
good luck, d.

Well, there of course is Debian for PPC, and there also are some Demudi PPC packages (see http://apt.agnula.org/dists/unstable/main/binary-powerpc/Packages.gz), although a lot are still missing. But Demudi is growing into a Custom Debian Distribution, and indeed Debian has a big collection of powerpc packages. (The others you would have to compile on your own, Gentoo-style, with "apt-get build"

A good source for knowing about what officials Debian packages are available for your architecture is packages.debian.org
e.g. when you go to packages.debian.org/puredata you will get this: Package puredata
* testing (sound): realtime computer music and graphics system
0.37.cvs-13: alpha arm hppa i386 ia64 m68k mips mipsel powerpc s390
sparc * unstable (sound): realtime computer music and graphics system 0.37.cvs1-4: alpha arm hppa i386 ia64 m68k mips mipsel powerpc s390 sparc
This means Pd is available for alpha arm hppa i386 ia64 m68k mips mipsel powerpc s390 and sparc architecture. You might do the same with other packages that you are interested in:
packages.debian.org/supercoolider
Package supercollider
* testing (sound): realtime sound synthesis server and network
language interpreter 040513-2: alpha arm hppa i386 ia64 m68k mips mipsel powerpc s390 sparc * unstable (sound): realtime sound synthesis server and network language interpreter 040513-2: alpha arm hppa i386 ia64 m68k mips mipsel powerpc s390 sparc
I bet most of the things you are looking for are already there. The only thing that can not be guaranteed is that it actually works. This mostly depends on the upstream authors and not on the distro. This means whatever distro you choose, if you encounter a problem *report* it (to the author and to the packager, if you don't know where the problem comes from). This is the only way that problems can get fixed and linux/ppc can get as stable as the i386 version.

I have a dual boot Powerbook G3 with Gentoo PPC and an Emagic EMI 2|6 audio interface. It works...sort of. It's highly unimpressive since ALSA and JACK applications either run poorly or not at all. I installed OSS drivers and removed everything related to ALSA and JACK and it's running fine. Of course this significantly limits it's usefulness. I mostly use the laptop for streaming ogg vorbis stuff to an Icecast server and when I need to reclaim the extra CPU cycles that the OS X GUI steals.
I haven't booted into that partition in months though.

Most of the demudi packages are available in standard Debian, AFAIK.
Otherwise, you can install standard Debian, and then add the demudi
repositories to your /etc/apt/sources.list and install all the stuff
from demudi. Last I checked, there wasn't a specific ppc demudi
version.
