This sounds quite good indeed! +1 I'll offer also some modest "pr" around.

+1. I think the forum is a good place for it, too. Newbies seem to gravitate toward (or at least participate more) to the forum. I think this would be a great way to help new users develop some chops.

ok, will we set up a section of the forum for this?
Tyler, as this was your suggestion, would you be able to manage/run it?
Yeah I would be fine acting as a moderator (for the forum). Andy Farraday mentioned writing an app that would take theme submissions... I don't know how easily this could be integrated into the forum but we'll discuss that more. It appears "Maelstrom" is the main moderator of the forums, so I'll contact him and see about getting it setup.

Pd-list@iem.at mailing list UNSUBSCRIBE and account-management -> http://lists.puredata.info/listinfo/pd-list
I'll prototype something when I get some time. It'd be a fairly straightforward app, forms to submit themes. Then probably just an admin view where you can take submitted themes and convert them into active ones (which would then accept patches and allow people to download these and comment on them. I'm not convinced about this app being integrated with the forum. Otherwise there'd probably be no advantage over just taking submissions by email and dropping them on the forum. I could also get this to send an e-mail to the pd-list when a theme is activated (I don't know if there'd be any problems with automated e-mails to the list?) As I say, stick with the forum for now. I'll post a prototype once I've managed to put something together. Then you can decide if it's worth developing further. Andrew

Cool. Yeah, I don't think the app needs to do anything to grand... just take submissions and then randomly select one once a month and auto-post on the forum and list. I'll try and start a quick and dirty one tonight after homework is done =)
Any suggestions on what to call this? It's not a huge deal but mmb made a good point that "contest" isn't really applicable... he suggested "challenge" which sounds good to me. How should we format the subject line for the list notification email?... would [PatchChallenge] be a suitable identifier?

I like the idea of remixing/frankensteining other people's patches (like what was happening in the compressed chip sounds thread). Maybe there could be different categories? Or it could alternate between them month to month?
