Hi folks, first of all, sorry, really sorry...
I'm not checking the list for a while. I'm filtering them and really not checking. I'm dumb, but at least I know how to filter emails. I am writing to the list because someone told me a private conversation of mine has been exposed to the list (where I also share the fact I am filtering the emails). So I wanted to say I'm sorry for that.
There are things from that message that I regret that were exposed and leaked, as in my impulse I said things I didn't actually mean and I wanted to take it back, or also clarify them.
I mentioned that Pd-Extended favored quantity over quality. I actually believe that, but I don't mean to say that it was a bad thing. I value that initiative. After all, I got a library with over 550 externals (and counting), and that is a big quantity...
I also said that it was good that Extended had died, so we could get rid of some bad code. Well, I actually do agree with that, but I need to say that this is because it was just a burden to have to maintain and carry too many libraries that have been abandoned by the original authors. That's the unfortunate part, that many people couldn't keep up with the good work we had going on decades ago (some people didn't even want the code in there, I hear). Also, let me add, if they were still working on updating these libraries, there was not that much need for Extended and we could just keep installing them on Vanilla.
Now for the main thing I regret! I said bad things about unauthorized and I am deeply sorry. I really wanna take that back! Having a better look at it, it is a wonderful library and I am actually in a phase where I want to dive in deep into tcl/tk coding, and this library has some awesome GUI objects! It feels like the perfect opportunity for me to hyperfocus on it and learn something from a master. I mean, c'mon, playlist is damn cool, who was I kidding in badmouthing that?
For last, I said that it was good that Extended died so we could get rid of Unauthorized. And I'm really taking that back. And to prove, I wanted to share that I just forked Unauthorized. I extracted it from the Purr Data repository, which makes a damn good job keeping the legacy of Extended alive. Unfortunately, they haven't ported unauthorized's code to their frontgui, so the best part of it is missing. So yeah, I am now building and getting the code to compile with pdlibbuilder, and I will get them to work in all the main current platforms. Raspberry Pis and whatnot. I already have most of the objects compiled for apple silicon. When it is ready, I will upload them to deken when it's ready, and you'll hear about it in the pd-announce list.
Here it is ==> https://github.com/porres/pd-unauthorized
I just altered the README from the Purr Data repository a bit and included a few lines. Let me share that with you
This repository was forked by Porres and extracted from the Purr Data repository. It has been adapted to use pdlibbuilder and be compiled with the most recent version of Pd Vanilla.
Note from PORRES: "I want to make it very very clear that I am not the author of this code, which is Yves Degoyon. I would also like to thank him for writing the code. I am not stealing this code".
Another note from PORRES: "This is supposed to be the same version as carried by Pd-Extended, and it uses that same old license. The good thing about this license is that if you end up in the top 10 chart of Pop music you can still use this library of externals. The bad thing about this license is that if you use it for military duties and end up building a nuclear bomb that kills us all, well, we're all gonna die, so it's bad (I guess?)"
I am still off the mailing list, not checking it, and I don't wanna hear about it. Even if something like nude pics of mine get leaked here (specially if something like that happens). Let me hyperfocus on working on unauthorized now. I'll check back when I get out of my new hyperfocus and announce on the Pd-announce list my new deken upload.
Sorry again
Bye...
ps. I'd like to say I really love this community and I wanna really thank everyone who is still keeping it up and working on stuff and sharing. Many who have contributed in the past surely need to be praised too but I wanted to *really really really really* thank people who have been volunteering to work on Pd for years, or literally decades now and have contributed as much as possible.
