Hi
I never believed.....you could install PD and all externals with just
one command ;-)
Trying to build Pd-extended from CVS (packages/linuxmake/make
install) and compilation hangs at
"mrpeach/str/str.c"
Would it not be better to have a more possibilities to modify the
"auto-build" process ?
If one externals fails, everything is useless...
Well thanks
Bye Luigi

That one will only compile if pd is patched to use strings. I tried to make it quietly not compile when the patch isn't applied but I guess it's just breaking everything. You can just delete the whole str folder and try again. Next time I have enough time I'll get it to behave in a civilized fashion...like making a dummy object.

I think so too. At least the make should try to build everything and not give up on the first error. That only makes sense when each build product depends on the others being successfully compiled..

For Pd-extended, just add the patch to packages/patches, and it will
be automatically included in the nightly builds. Then str.c should
compile too.

The build system isn't limited by design, but instead someone just
needs to do the work to improve it...

Thanks for the immediate answer. But i need more information for that:
Which patch ? where do i get it from ? How do i add it ?
Sorry if this might seem stupid questions..but i am talking for ohers
too, who want to use pd with its full capabilities without knowing
all the "inside" tricks
a programmer knows........
Could you be more specific ?

I am afraid, but my knowlegde is too limited to do that ;-(
hi, luigi,
well, surely you miss the speex ( and speex-devel ) library, but this external is hardly maintained anyway, so maybe it doesn't compile with more recent versions of speex.
another question, why do you want to compile everything, when there is a compile farm that is supposed to do this? ( dis i miss something ? ).

OK !
After deleting the str folder the next stop is at
"unauthorized/speex~"
is speex.h missing ? or the path not specified ?
I dont know if i should adress the "build"-creators or the externals- creator...
In that case "Hi to Yves" ;-)
Ciao Luigi

Well obviously i missed something...
Why do i want to compile everything ? No i dont want to, i thought
its the only way to get all the externals going.
I think i missed something, i did not know there are all externals as
binaries for gentoo-linux.....
i have a gentoo running on a laptop. And i got used to follow http:// goto10.org/-/pdgentoo.html to install pd/pdp etc.
so if i want all the others externals, i thought i follow the
documentation on puredata.org.
I'll check the Documentation again, but there is something confusing
about the linux-extended installer.
I really wanted to have a more recent version, thats the reason. PD
0.4 with all externals.
and btw it worked many times.....
There is not "gentoo" package, i can probably use the debian package,
but i never did that.
Have a nice sunday

but it also doesn't work in the pd autobuild farm - so there are no daily builds ATM for some platforms !
What is to do to get this working ? Did you apply the patch to the pd-extended autobuilds ?

I just updated str.c in cvs so that it will make a dummy str object if there is no string support in pd. To compile it for string support PD_STRINGS needs to be defined either in m_pd.h or in the makefile CCFLAGS as -DPD_STRINGS. I was waiting for someone who knows what they are doing to apply the patch to pd itself...;)
