I get the following error:

I get the following error:
dyld: /usr/local/bin/pd can't open library: /sw/lib/libpng.3.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2) pd_gui: pd process exited
I got the same. I used Fink to install libpng (which had some more dependencies!)
I then ran into a similar problem with ImageMagick (shared): dyld: /usr/local/bin/pd can't open library: /usr/local/lib/ libMagick.6.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2)
As it's in /usr/local/lib, I'm assuming Yves had built it without Fink, but it's unclear how we users build it (especially as it presumably has dependencies on Fink packages).
I'm capable of building these libraries manually, but it's a real pain to track down the dozens that pdp/pidip seems to rely upon, so I am really looking forward to having a workable, all-included package.

hi,
oh, ok, that was this : i forgot to include the /usr/local/lib libraries in the tarball, now, it's fixed and the release is 22.6 MB ( ufff ).
but, by the way, i received some very unfriendly mails from MAC users ( consumers ) UNHAPPY with their product as if they were writing to a company dealer, this makes you feel like wanting to give up support for MAC, if not others, more friendly, would not have tried to understand what happened ( why i will not give up ). but, some are blacklisted here now...
ciao, sevy

Yves,
but, by the way, i received some very unfriendly mails from MAC users ( consumers ) UNHAPPY with their product as if they were writing to a company dealer,
It's true that there can be some culture shock between the Pd (do-it- yourselfers) and the Mac (click, and it just works) communities. I do hope you're not discouraged by those folks, but Pat also rightly brings up the idea of pent-up demand and excitement.
Anyway, some hints to potential users, and comments to Sevy:
If you get an error message on startup about pdp_text not finding a default font, try this:
sudo cp pdp_pidip_osx/fonts/helmetr.ttf /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/
The nifty pdp_ieee1394 object looks like it isn't re-entrant yet (i.e., you can't create a second pdp_ieee1394 object, even in another patch after one has been destroyed). This might show up with a bunch of lines like "pdp_ieee1394: SGIdle failed." or "pdp_ieee1394: grabber initialization failed". If you run into this, I think the only way to fix it is to close pd and restart. It's not pretty, but from the commented- out code, it seems like there's some trouble with the implementation.
It's most irritating when trying out all the nifty sample patches!
Can the Gem/OSX folks offer any insight into this?
Thanks again, adam

should be the case for pix_video, too, no? some code of pix_video did not work also because, in pdp, everything is excuted in a thread ( i guess it's the more likely reason ).

Sevvy!!!
I am so sorry! I meant "rats" as an expression similar to "darn" rats was NOT BY ANY MEANS EVER meant to be a descriptor of you It was to be "Oh Rats, it won't work for my machine".
Sorry that translated so badly.

dyld: /usr/local/bin/pd can't open library: /sw/lib/libpng.3.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2) pd_gui: pd process exited
I'm capable of building these libraries manually, but it's a real pain to track down the dozens that pdp/pidip seems to rely upon, so I am really looking forward to having a workable, all-included package.
isn't your distribution supposed to take care of all extra required libraries?? thanks and keep up the effort! It would be great to pdp on OSX!
I agree!

hi sevy
i still get /usr/X11R6/lib/libXv.1.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2)
does anyone have this lib or can it be included in the tarball? if it is not used maybe i can fool it

hi,
oh, ok, that was this : i forgot to include the /usr/local/lib libraries in the tarball, now, it's fixed and the release is 22.6 MB ( ufff ).
but, by the way, i received some very unfriendly mails from MAC users ( consumers ) UNHAPPY with their product as if they were writing to a company dealer, this makes you feel like wanting to give up support for MAC, if not others, more friendly, would not have tried to understand what happened ( why i will not give up ). but, some are blacklisted here now...

I second Patrick. Maybe people are just excited about this and overreact.
Now for the thing: is the tarball in the exact same place?:
http://ydegoyon.free.fr/pdp_pidip_osx.tar.gz
can't seem to reach it...

Hrm. Did you do a full install of Apple's X11? Cos I have it on my 10.3 system.
As for /usr/X11R6/lib/libXv.1.dylib, I do have it too. X11 regular distribution with 10.3.
Cheers to all Ivan

no, it changed of place due to its size :
http://tdegoyon.free.fr/pdp_pidip_osx.tar.gz
the links are updated, you just have to reload the pages.
cheers, sevy
ok. PDP Installed!!!
Now for some feedback: . pdp_ieee1394 doesn't load (I noticed most of the examples were built around the usage of cameras). I tried both usb and firewire cam's (should be recognized by system before loading object?)
. Other examples, using [pdp_noise] as source, work correctly
. also movies (qt) work correctly although, when loading a qt movie I
still get: dlopen failed for /sw/lib/libquicktime/lqt_dv.so: dlcompact: dydl: /usr/local/bin/pd can't open library: /sw/lib/libdv.2.dylib ...
Cheers I.

yes, launch pd once the camera is plugged on and sending data.

It still doesn't seem to work. Can't load. I've been trying to use webcams inside both Gem and now PDP.
So I'm reporting (since I believe Yves told that part of
[pdp_ieee1394] was based on [pix_video_darwin].
I can use my webcam with the previous binary distribution of Gem that came with Hans's installer (0.87 - Aug. 6 2003). Pix_video works as expected. Although, when trying to use the most recent bin build of Gem (GemG4, from http://taproot.dyndns.org/~cgc/downloads/index.html) I get:
GEM: pix_videoDarwin: no video yet pix_videoDarwin: SGIdle failed.
as pix_videoDarwin been disabled? I worked previously!! ...
no Pix_video, no pdp_ieee1394!! :-(
Cheers all Ivan
PS. using logitech Quickcam Pro 4000, OSX 10.3. Webcam works ok with other sw.

Send a 'colorspace rgb' message to pix_video followed by a 'reset' message. pix_video defaults to YUV colorspace right now. I guess it should go back to rgb since it seems far more people plug in $30 webcams than fancy DV cams or professional capture devices. Oh well.

thanks a lot. It works now.

Hum... true enough. Maybe you could just change the error message too? "no video yet" seems a bit misleading... Cheers I.

hi,
yep, pdp_ieee1394 also use YUV ( and only YUV ), but where is that documentation that says webcams work in RGB mode and DV in YUV mode ???
any quicktime obfuscation trick & tweaks ??
sorry, i don't feel like working again on OSX again these days..
cheers, sevy
ps : was it your mail day? ( sorry for the cheap joke )

can you post that file somewhere or will that open a can of worms??
Absolute can of worms, I'm afraid... I'll email it off list, but I have *zero* expectations... adam
