I don't know, if the official Gem packages for Debian have pix_multiblob enabled, as I run the CVS-Gem, but building your own Gem on Debian is very easy. First you install the build dependencies with apt-get using:
$ apt-get build-dep gem
then you either check out Gem from CVS or use the Gem sources in Debian (which you can get with "apt-get source gem") and then you use the "debian" directory in both to build a custom Debian package with
$ cd WHERE_YOU_PUT_GEM $ fakeroot debian/rules binary $ sudo dpkg -i ../gem*.deb
You can change any options passed to Gem's configure-script in "debian/rules", if you like.

when I do that I get this error :
Package xlibmesa-glu-dev is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source
do I really need it?
