hey all, i'm trying to help thomas grill debug the *awsome* [vst~] object so that i can work with the fruity loops VSTi ... does anyone know any open source/free software VST hosts? I'd like to test the fruity vsti with another host to see if we can peg down these bugs. i found one called "VST Host" but it does not support the graphical interface of the plugins, which is what i'm testing.
thanks.

I think buzz tracker hosts them pretty well.
Or Plogue's Bidule http://www.plogue.com (I think)

. . David McCallum . Music wants to be free . http://mentalfloss.ca/sintheta/ .
cool, i'll test with it, but i dont believe buzz comes with source code, does it? we really need source to figure this out.

You might have a look on the VST source code archive or ask one of the maintainers of the site.

here's a good one www.pastnotecut.org/psycle/
kind of like buzz, but open source and a very stable vst host on its own.

Hi,
I'm afraid that's not going to help you much. I used the psycle source code as the basis for vst~ in the first place :-) so any bugs in vst~ are going to be in psycle.
While we are on the subject a huge thank you to thomas grill for taking over the vst~ external - I'm looking forward to seeing what hes done with it..
cheers
mark

incidentally, pecycle loads the fruity vsti.dll plugin just fine, so maybe they changed something since the version you based off of?
and yes, thanks to thomas and mark, [vst~] has really turned me onto pd again for the first time in a while. as you might have noticed do to my sudden flood of email ;)

Dear folks
i recall there being a text file that mtof referenced to assign frequency to midi relationships. Is this fantasy?
I would like to microtune if possible with possibly 128 notes in the duple. but more probably just creating harmonic relationships ie... midi note 60 equals 64hz midi note 61 equals 68hz or 17/16 etc....
is this possible?
Also
Does the Joystick code by J. Sarlo work at all on SGI?? I woudl like to use pd on the onyx with a joystick controller that could simultaneously control Performer in a CAVE like environment
Also also Is there any documentation on creating physical models in pd i would like to do a tambourra but do not want to copy Yves work but i am interested in teh relationship between pd and stk please advise
Also also also are there any list memebers attending UFs EA festival in April? if so maybe we can meet up whilst you are in town you know talk pd, go to nudie bars etc...lol
If there is not such a thing [maphash] (or something like that) makes it really easy. There is an abstraction that will let you dump/load the map to/from a [textfile]. I used that for presets up till now.

Hi

The mtof textfile is in 3.audio.examples. I am pretty sure that the mtof object does not use that file for anything.

I don't think it will compile without modifications. Can you use a joystick on an SGI (Onyx?)? In that case it may be possible with a few modifications. Another way to go: Do you have a Wand for the CAVE? I am using a Wand with VR Juggler and communicates with PD through netreceive. It works great. You may be able to use a similar setup but you will need to do some programming.

Of course table look-up is enough and much faster than [maphash], my suggestion was not good. It is in fact a typical usage of tables and always has been in soft synth: it is mostly useful when you have to perform the conversion at audio rate where even [mtof~] is not the best choice . It is documented for example in
53.delays.pd
and several other patches of the section 3. In some of these examples the array is stored into the patch file.

I believe that Audacity supports VST plugins now + it's open source http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
