hi all ...
is there any way to change the behaviour of the pd-cvs list that diffs of *.pd files won't be sent? i'm sure, i'm not the only one having problems when reading diffs of pd patches ...
cheers ... tim
I am a fan of the diffs because it allows me to quickly scan what's
been changed, and therefore keep up to date with minimal effort.

right, but for patches a note like: abstractions/thisthat/blabla.pd changed would suffice don't you think ?

I think so, but isn't that the case with checking in as binary files anyway? We once had the discussion whether patches should be binary in the repository, and we concluded yes, because no accidental (and then disastrous) merging can happen.
best greetings, Thomas

can't this be done on the server?

It should be possible by adding to "CVSROOT/cvswrappers" the following line, which I use in my ~/.cvswrappers file anyway:
*.pd -k 'b'

"We could add .pd files to the cvswrappers with the -kb tag, which is the only specific 'binary' handling that CVS does server-side AFAIK. All -kb does is prevent keyword expansion ($Revision $, $Id $, etc.). But I use those so I'd like to keep it in there. I am pretty sure that preventing merges happens on the client-side, since the actual merge happens on the client side."
I'd like to keep it this way, if possible.

Yoy mean like
cvs diff -uBw > cool_feature.patch ?
Guenter
i'm interested in the changes of the code, not in white-spaces or blank lines ...
sorry for all these requests, but it would
- save bandwidth (not everyone has a broadband connection and is pleased by mails of 200k)
- make it easyer to find important changes in the diffs ... (what's interesting for me, since i can't always run cvs diff against the sourceforge cvs myself)
cheers ... tim
