I am teaching an intro workshop to Pd at Harvestworks:
INTRODUCTION TO Pd (PURE DATA) (Hans-Christoph Steiner) Thu, March 29, April 5, 12, 6:30 - 9:30pm $325 (members) $385 (non-members) Pd (aka Pure Data) is a real-time, graphical programming environment
for integrated media processing. It is free software, and a closely
related cousin to Cycling74's Max/MSP. It runs on Mac OS X, Windows,
GNU/Linux, and even on iPods, PDAs, and as a web-browser plug-in. Pd
was created by Miller S. Puckette, the creator of Max, to explore
ideas of how to further refine the Max paradigm. It was designed to
be as neutral as possible, with few assumptions about how things
should be done. This makes it an ideal platform for integrating
audio, video, MIDI, sensors, graphics, robotics, interaction, and
more. In this introductory workshop we start with the basics - what is
Pd, who uses it, how do you program with it, and what is the available
functionality. Participants will learn about control and timing
structures, basic GUI building, and OSC communication, and also get
exposure to basic sampling, filtering, and synthesizing sound, as well
as basic video manipulation. You can use your own laptop, the
workshop will be preceded with a short installation help session.
This course will prepare you for further work in audio, video,
graphics or electronics.
Here are the rest of the Spring workshops being offered, which have
little or nothing to do with Pd:

usual, we offer a wide and exciting range of topics for artists
interested in digital and interactive arts. Liubomir Borissov & Dana
Karwas offer again a class for anyone who is interested in the
connection between architecture and the arts: "Sound, Art,
Architecture". We also have again the weekend class about
sensorbuildung with Eric Singer's "Miditron", the easiest way to get
your sensor data into the computer, or control external devices. In the Max/MSP & Jitter area we offer again introductory courses, and
those who take Max, MSP and Jitter in a row, receive a discount for
this "Intensive Course". The Max Nite School, a one-week bootcamp for
those who need advanced knowledge, will focus each day on a special
topic of interest. We will also offer an introductory course on Pd
(Pure data), the open-source brother of Max/MSP.Jody Elff, a true master in audio engineering (he works on a regular
basis with Laurie Anderson, Paul Winter, Bang On A Can All Stars)

making your home-made CD's sound more consistent in volume and tone,
translate better across different kinds of speakers and playback
environments, and give your recordings that added "shine" that sets
them apart.INTRODUCTION TO MAX (Matthew Ostrowski) Tue, Feb 7, 14, 21, 6:30 - 9:30pm $325 (members) $385 (non-members) Max is a graphical programming environment, which means you create
your own software using a visual toolkit of objects, and connect them
together with patch cords. This introductory course includes basic
programming with Max, MIDI, control, user interfaces, and timing
objects.INTRODUCTION TO MSP (Matthew Ostrowski) Tue, Feb 28, March 7, 14, 6:30 - 9:30pm $325 (members) $385 (non-members) Follow-up to the Intro to Max course, you learn using MSP for audio

required.INTRODUCTION TO JITTER (Luke DuBois) Tue, March 28, April 4, 11, 6:30 - 9:30pm $325 (members) $385 (non-members) Jitter is a set of video, matrix, and 3D graphics objects developed
for Max. The course will be taught by R. Luke DuBois (one of the
developers of the software), and will be in the format of a hands-on
workshop to get Max users familiar with the Jitter object system.
Subjects such as QuickTime video playback, signal-processing for
video, live camera tracking, audio-visual interaction, and simple
OpenGL rendering will be explored. Participants are expected to be
reasonably comfortable working in Max/MSP and on the Macintosh in
general.***MAX/MSP/JITTER INTENSIVE COURSE*** Take all three introductory courses Max, MSP and Jitter in a row, and
receive a discount! Members pay $900 instead of $975.MAX NITE SCHOOL (Luke DuBois, Matthew Ostrowski, Dafna Naphtali) Mon, March 20 through Friday, March 24, 6:30 - 9:30pm Each day, this course focuses on a special topic of interest for the
Max community, e.g. frequency domain sound manipulation with FFT,
OpenGL programming in Jitter, Javascript, and others. Reserve a single
day for $110/$170, or book the entire week for $500 (for members
only). For the daily schedule check soon http://www.harvestworks.orgSENSOR BUILDING WITH THE MIDITRON (Eric Singer) Sat, March 25 and Sun, March 26, 12 - 6pm $375/$435 plus $150 materials fee. Learn to create sensor interfaces to extend and control your
Max/MSP/Jitter performance environment. Instead of building everything
from scratch, students will work with Eric Singer's Miditron to start
with sensors and Max patches right away. Materials fee includes the
Miditron plus additional materials (sensors, cables, etc.), that the
student will keep. If you own a Miditron already, the materials fee
will be $25. Max knowledge is helpful, but not necessary. 8 hrs of

:: RBF-soft. [producing] present their last work VIFE _alpha v.01 at Barcelona, January 21 of 2006 ::
David & Iván RodrÃguez are RBF-soft. [producing], an electronic artists formation. Two brothers mix design, art & technology to create innovation & interactive proposals. Rodri_DJ & ivan_VJ are the creators of VIFE _alpha v.01 [Virtual Interface to Feel Emotions]. This work has been showed at METRÃNOM, at the international NIME'05 festival (New Interfaces for Musical Expressions) at Vancouver - Canada and at SONAR2005 - Barcelona.
The work investigates the idea of Synaesthesia and her enormous possibilities creating new realities, sensations and zones, where the user can find new points of interaction. This interface allows the performer to create sonorous and visual compositions in real time. 6 three-dimensional forms that represent sonorous objects are modified with the movements of the performer. Multiple combinations of colours, transformations and sonorous effects are mixing to create a unique experience. For this work we have created the software that controls all sensors and the hardware used by the performer. VIFE _glove is a sensorial glove controlled by the performer, this glove have full of sensors and allow the manipulation of the 3D forms. R-CUBE IV is an analysing box that analyse the stimulus of the sensors and send the information to the computers. VIFE _alpha v.01 is controlled by 2 computers at the same time, one computer control the movements of the performer and the other make the render and reproduce the audio applying the effects.
RBF-soft [producing] creates interactive installations, performances, audiovisual lives, design, electronic music sessions, visuals and interactive solutions on demand. If you want to know more about us, please visit our website.
In VIFE _alpha v.01, we use PD + GEM to make the 3D render and control the glove and LIVE Ableton to control the music and sonorous effects.
The performance will be showed at NIUbcn showroom Barcelona Gallery :: + info
