i needed to hack.. s_linux.c all calls starting with SNDRV_ need to be replaced by SND_ That's it! Why..?? Ask ALSA coders.... in any case i found this
sys/asaoundlib.h has the following
Alsa < 0.9.0beta7 (.ie. beta4-5 etc...) it uses SNDRV_ Alsa = 0.9.0beta7 it uses SND_ Alsa > 0.9.0beta....cvs basically it accepts SND and SNDRV
Once you made this change it works perfectly (in my case)....
i would install....DeMuDi...:-) Debian Multimedia Distribution...... (yo'll get the CD at ICMC....)

Hi again,
well, I heard that Pd 034test7 doesn't work with Alsa 0.9 beta 7 (the latest version.) So I tried to load alsa0.9b7 on my RedHat 7.1 machine, and presto, Alsa "lib" won't compile! There's already a bug report on the Alsa bug tracker about this.
So anyway, there's no way I can fix Pd to work with the newest Alsa unless I go install Suse or Debian on my machine (which I'm afraid to try)... can anyone else figure out what's wrong between Pd and Alsa?
thanks Miller
ciao,
marco

Well, it didn't work here this way. I also patched s_linux.c that way, but after that I get this error when I run pd-beta8:
ALSA lib dlmisc.c:54:(snd_dlsym_verify) unable to verify version for symbol _snd_pcm_hw_open snd_pcm_open (input): No such file or directory ALSA lib dlmisc.c:54:(snd_dlsym_verify) unable to verify version for symbol _snd_pcm_hw_open snd_pcm_open (output): No such file or directory realtime setting failed because not root
I don't know, if that is an error in alsalib or if one needs to change pd's source in another place.

Hi Frank,
I believe I fixed this for 0.34 ... it simply always compiles ALSA dynamically (used to be statically.) As a result, the "rpm" packages aren't configured for ALSA anymore. I've come to the conclusion that an RPM can't safely be released with the ALSA library, even statically linked... ALSA users have to do the ".tar.gz" installation but I think anyone who can get ALSA installed shouldn't have any trouble with that.
...
it accepts SND and SNDRV
