Hi,
Due to x11 problems, i updated to OSX.3 [panther] and installed the apple X11 plus X11SDK and made it being recognized by Fink. And repeated the rest of the installation of the libs and pd[p] pidip.
I get the following output when i start pd[p]:
PDP: pure data packet PDP: version 0.12.1 tried /usr/local/lib/pd/pdp_pidip_osx/pdp.pd_darwin and succeeded PDP: pure data packet PDP: version 0.12.1 pdp_matrix_setup: WARNING: overriding gsl error handler. PiDiP : additional video processing objects for PDP : version 0.12.10 ( ydegoyon@free.fr )
Is this pdp_matrix_setup: WARNING: something familiar to anyone of you? Is this 'ignorable' or not?
Sara
wow, great news, you finally made it !! so it will be there for christmas ))
this gsl error handler you get is really not a serious warning, it should even be info, Tom, no? you can go ahead..
it seems the libraries are loaded now. did you try any of the examples? ( note you should read some movies from your hard drive that are supported by libquicktime : the best ones are photo-JPEG ones ).
so, maybe, the teaching of all of this is that what we released only works on MAC OSX Panther. maybe, rob could add this too to his installation notes.
thanx for having been so patient, we're sorry of the poor support here, but i didin't ask for a MAC for Xmas.

Oh, i wasn't even aware of it.. ;) I just got used to installing libs.

I'm curious to hear about that.

For some reason, i had to change all my permissions to the directories of pd[p] / pidip; otherwise i wouldn't be able to see them at all. Is this because i installed while logged in as root?
I tried to open the /pdp_pidip_osx/doc/introduction/quicktime.pd and it opens, but how can i load a movie into it? Rob mentioned his fiddeling around with minimized windows, but i'm still a step before that i think.
so, maybe, the teaching of all of this is that what we released only works on MAC OSX Panther. maybe, rob could add this too to his installation notes.
I also wrote down all my [mis]-steps in this installation-procedure. I'll try to make a html-install-version as well. Maybe [later] it can be combined with Rob's notes.

Thanx for all of U being so patient. And all the online-help wasn't as poor as you might think, it really helped me a lot. Probably you can expect more questions later, but then about the working of pdp.. [I mean, if i cannot even load a quicktime ;) ]

Congratulations, indeed, but is there a _compelling_ reason for this Pd external to be dependant on 10.3 Panther? Lots of folks won't pay for that OS upgrade until it's stable. There are rumblings of a class-action suit anyways. Great: free software on a moving-target expensive-to-upgrade OS. Just like Windows. Serious kudos to Sara for persistence, though. And happy holidays, Lex

although we did a binary release that seems to be only compatible with Panther because of X server issues ( which are not really clear to me yet ), you can still recompile the package for any release of OSX. you'll need the development packages too instead of only the libraries, but you can get all with Fink.

mm, seems to me you're running an expensive OS already, the other alternative is using linux where pdp will work without restrictions. I did that OSX release out of requests from MAC users and i'm not intending to sell anything or help Apple's business in any way.
Serious kudos to Sara for persistence, though. And happy holidays, Lex
Sorry. My apparent ingratitude was unintentional. Recompile notes understood. My sardonic 'great:' remark should have referred only to the OS, not to the free software. Yeah, my switch to Linux is painfully slow because I'm hidebound and lame. I fully understand you're not charging. Serious kudos to y'all for releasing pdp. No more flames to this list, I promise.
