Hi list, is there an easy way to automate pd from any good sequencer program (under linux or W2k)? I guess the most felxible way (under Windows) would be a VST plugin which sends messages (or even audio streams) over a net socket, so that it can be received by netsend... has anything comparable already been done? How could something like that be done under linux?
greetings, Thomas

is netreceive broken in 0.32p1? incoming messages are not received by receive objects, they are only output through netreceive's outlet.
and: i get compile errors like "redefinition of function exit" or so. when i comment out those parts in the source, pd compiles and runs ok, though. stunt patching... is that a redhat (7) compiler thing?

I changed netreceive between 0.30 and 0.31 to make it more modular (and more secure)... messages now appear on netreceives outlet, not on "receives" anywhere in Pd as before.

It seems to me there is a really very good idea here. The OpenSoundControl (OSC) protocol has recently been added to Csound, and I think a few other apps will add it soon, so an OSC port within PD would seem to be a useful thing. With reference to VST, the idea of a plugin (could be a DirectX version as well) which acted as a network port for control and/or audio data seems very worthwhile for all sorts of tasks, especially where some cross-platform code compatibility is important (otherwise, one would just use COM). It might therefore be good to use a general protocol such as OSC.
There is also the Network Audio Server project, at: http://radscan.com/nas.html
which looks very interesting, especially if it would be possible to make a native Windows port, so that VST/DX plugins could talk to it. If indeed this hasn't already been done by anyone, I am interested to have ago, as I am doing both VST and DX plugin development at the moment.

Obviously, OSC objects do already exist for Max... it should not be to diffcult to adapt them for pd http://cnmat.cnmat.berkeley.edu/OpenSoundControl/clients/max-objs.html
