Thanks everyone, that was it! (using version 0.6 of both pd-iiwu and iiwusynth) Now it works with the help-patch sound fonts, but not my .sf2's- I wonder why? (same for iiwusynth on its own as well as for pd-iiwu)

Did you try "iiwu~" instead of "iiwu" ? The help file is wrong.

Ouch! Mea culpa - I changed the name from "iiwu" to "iiwu~" to reflect the fact that it is an audio object, but I didn't update the help patch.
Was this in fact your problem, or are you still without a working iiwu?

pd-iiwu is just a wrapper around libiiwusynth, so if something doesn't work with iiwusynth it most probably won't work in PD, too. I have some soundfonts from www.hammersound.com (.org?) that don't work well with iiwusynth, too.
