hi
anybody knows a capture-device for USB, that is running under linux (video4linux) ?
no, i don't mean a webcam, but something with compositeIN (necessary) and svhsIN (optional, but would be great)
the bungee-thing (hauppauge) seems to be supported, but not with v4l but only to write mpeg-files.

The usbvision project has a list of supported devives: http://usbvision.sourceforge.net/index.php?page=device -- Marc
i got my hauppauge usb-tv working (gem, xawtv...) with the usbvision drivers, but i think they still don't support regular framrates. about 10-15 fps was the maximum i got.

I read:

but be prepared for ~9 fps since all of these use top secret compression codecs. (still enough for me though)

There's no decompression module available for the usbvision project. The pwc driver for Philips based webcams uses a binary only codec (pwcx). This is a terrible situation, similar to the one with video card drivers. We should protest energically.

LinuxMediaLabs (http://www.linuxmedialabs.com) has video capture and good linux support. I'm not sure what their v4l story is, but they've been very helpful in the past.
