Is there a word for referring to both inlets and outlets at once, undifferentiated?
I mean, something like: dataflow objects have "foolets". there are two kinds of "foolets": inlets, outlets.
replace "foolets" by something that:

replace "foolets" by something that:

- is distinctive enough (no conflict with other concepts)
- is intuitive (as in: you can deduce its meaning).
(or whatever the best you can do)

'ports' being probably the best choice, I would also consider calling message-handling iolets the 'messlets', iolets for audio the 'siglets', and if they can do both -- the 'mixlets'.
