Never had this kind of problem with evolution UC33, which I've used extensively with W$ and Pd (0.37 though, don't know about 0.38) Check if the 'scrambled' message problem, might be due to accidentally recalling Control Surface scenes. Happend to me before.
Yes, I have seen this too. With me, it still sends MIDI data, but it seems to be garbled somehow because it starts controlling the wrong things and everything starts acting strangely. The only way I have found to fix it is to stop and restart PD. I have not been able to detect a pattern to it either. Seems to happen randomly.
The MIDI controller I am using is a Kaoss Pad 2 and I am running WinXP and pd 0.38.
Perhaps PD gets lost in the MIDI stream, so to speak? Parsing the messages in the wrong places? Just a thought...

I've got several patches that I control from my MIDI control surface(Tascam US-428) Sometimes it seems to lose connection and stops responding, and the only way to reestablish the connection is to either restart PD or turn off and on the control surface. I haven't yet figured out a pattern for when it stops responding, but I'll give a holler if i do. Is this a problem anyone else is seeing?
