Hi everyone,
I know there's been some discussion on this list about pd-extended vs. 0.39-2: I'm on the hunt for some externals as well & I'd like to know if there's anywhere we can get these apart from the pd-extended dist. I realize I can just download pd-extended and extract them out of there, but this seems like a lot of trouble to go through for just a couple of externs. I'm a big fan of the idea of having a pd-extended dist but I have been writing lots of patches in 0.39-2 that are no longer backwards compatible with 0.38-4, so I'd prefer to not have to mess with this version at all.
Ideally, there would be pd-extended and also an externals repository that's download-friendly, a wiki page perhaps, where you can download them individually? The links on the puredata.org site to the downloads wiki are apparently broken, and the pd-externals download is almost 3 years old. Surely there must be externals more recent than this?
Thoughts?
david
PS I'm available for some lightweight site maintenance if there's any way I can help on a regular basis.

it would be annoying but not impossible to automate the building of externals nightly and putting them up for download somewhere. to avoid things like strange load and link and symbol errors there would probably have to be at least these:
osx86-32, osx-ppc32 osx-ppc64 win32 linux: gcc 3.3, gcc 4.0, various versions of libstdc++, various versions of glibc, on powerpc, i686, amd64
for both: pd-msp, pd-devel
thats more than a few combinations..are you looking for a particular one? there are at least two ways to build a vast amount of externals using the CVS ('scons' or 'make' in externals/build) which should get something suited to your hw, i agree it would be a nice additional option to just specify the names of the ones you want, say make objects=sprinkler,l2s,pmpd . wanna code it?

There is no Pd-extended vs. Pd-0.39.2, Pd-extended just hasn't caught
up to 0.39-2, mostly because 0.39 did not compile out of CVS for a
while, therefore I didn't use it. RC8 is the final release of
Pd-0.38.4-extended, which will go up on SourceForge, then we'll start
in on Pd-0.39.2-extended. Any help would be greatly appreciated,
especially in the form of getting your code working within Pd-extended,
and making nice example patches that "just work" in Pd-extended.
