i'm not really in a hurry at this point, so i'll continue poking around in what i have for the moment, but since the hurry will be getting on in about a week or so, i'm glad to know about your [play-samp~]. i actually know it (almost it) from your slicer~abs, and it looks like it'll be great to use as an example too. thanks. robbert

If you're in a hurry: RTC-lib (update just announced) contains a simple sample player called play-samp~.pd which does reversed and looped playback of tables holding 44.1kHz samples. [samp10~] is the polyphonic version of it. The only external used is [arraysize], basic playback in one direction, non-looped even works without that.

dear hcs,
i've changed it according to your suggestions. there is no play
button because it should play right when you opened a sample. i
suggest one wich is 1-5 seconds long with 44.1 kHz. if the rate is
different then set it.
the ftos object is used. i don't know wich library this is and how i

That's what fixed it for me. In order for it to start, I need to
move the IN slider. Then it works. To fix this add a [loadbang]-[1
( to this part of [pd stuff]
[r in_out] [loadbang | / | [1 ( | / | / [set $1( |
Its a very nice patch, especially now that's its all cleaned up. It

I just asked Miss Marble. It seams to be due to Dieter Kovacic, and
lives in externals/ext13/. It seam to have no help file, she couldn't
located it, that is.
- for a GOP version the send and receives should be local.
(I don't know what GOP really is, but apart from that) I think that
would be a good idea: When checking out your patch to figure out if
it really was the In slider that needed to be moved or not, you send
a new version of it. It so happened that i had the two versions
opened simultaneously, which meant that when i moved a slider in the
one patch it influenced the slider of the same name in the other
patch. Apropos, when is non local variables a really good idea?
so i just add "$0-" before?
Im quite new to actually patch anything in Pd, so i can't give an
confident answer. - But i think, yes, adding $0 will do the trick. I
also thing using $42 as a prefix will do the trick, since i'm not
sure if the numbers 0 and 1 have special status in the variable "show".

Hey Max
The problem is the way pd deals with $0- in messages. I don't completely understand it, but I've attached my solution, which
avoids
using $0- directly.

I just asked Miss Marble. It seams to be due to Dieter
Kovacic, and
lives in externals/ext13/. It seam to have no help file, she couldn't located it, that is.
- for a GOP version the send and receives should be local.
(I don't know what GOP really is, but apart from that) I
think that
would be a good idea: When checking out your patch to figure
out if
it really was the In slider that needed to be moved or not, you send a new version of it. It so happened that i had the two versions opened simultaneously, which meant that when i moved a slider in the one patch it influenced the slider of the same
name
in the other patch. Apropos, when is non local variables a
really
good idea?
so i just add "$0-" before?
Im quite new to actually patch anything in Pd, so i can't
give an
confident answer. - But i think, yes, adding $0 will do the
trick.
I also thing using $42 as a prefix will do the trick, since
i'm not
sure if the numbers 0 and 1 have special status in the variable "show".
PS. The looks are really slick in my opinion.

thanks a lot. i can learn quite a bit from your patch. it answers
quite some questions i have asked my self while reading about "Pd".
I'd surggest however, to bang the the [1( that initialize the show by
setting $0-in_out to 1 with [loadbang] instead of from [r $0-
loadfile] (and [t b b]). If one click to open a new file in the
sampler, but decides not to anyways, hence press cancel, then the In
slider position is reset. It is that reset that might be unwanted,
since one might want to keep the current slider values when one
decided not to load a new sample anyway. Just an idea.

For making your patch usable as an abstraction, also senders and receivers would need to be proteced with $0.
