Hi list,
Is there any way to get the mouse wheel rotation data into PD?
Thanks, Vasily

In Linux, wheel-up counts as 4th Button and wheel-down counts as 5th Button 5. In GridFlow you may connect [#out window] to [#mouse], of which the 8th outlet will give you -1 for wheel-up and 1 for wheel-down.
OTOH, I'd like to know how to use *this* wheel with PD:

funnily enough, we have just a tiny installation running with *this* wheel (kindof) and pd: http://umlaeute.mur.at/projects/race-the-net

Is that using Pd? [hid] should work for that. I recently finished
the GNU/Linux port of the new [hid] internal architecture, so I'd be
curious to know what you think of how its working. In theory, it
should take much less CPU time.

yes it is using Pd. (well, the html-rendering is NOT done in pd but by the konqueror engine) and it is using hid. it works fine.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions!
It seems that [hid] would be the way to go. Under PD-0.38.4-extended-RC7 (that's what I have) it seems to crash quite often, but after the patch is ready and you only turn it on/off, it looks rather stable.

There has been big improvements in [hid]. It should crash much less,
and use less CPU. Its included in the nightly builds:
http://auto-build.puredata.info
and the latest test release:
